Making a Cyber-compact (First mod)
on: November 23, 2020, 03:39:56 PM
Hi all,

New to the forum but I am a long-time reader ;)

First of all, I want to thank all the people that have taken the time to make the different threads in this section of the forum... It's a goldmine of informations!

I've been reading a lot about modding SAK, so i've made the step to do it myself.

I'm carrying a compact since a few years and I've got a cybertool S in my bag. I'm facing a lot of situations where I'm in need of the bit driver from the cybertool so... Why not messing with the two of them?

1) the donors

2) Descaling (?) and drilling the rivets

3) The exploded views

! don't use these pictures to get a correct order, I've replaced the layers but I'm not sure of the order !

4) Hammer time !  :ahhh

5) Building of the cyber-compact layer by layer

6) Hammer time ! (bis)

7) And it done !

I'll change the scales for clean ones in a few days, I prefer to wait and see if there is any play between the layers.

Thanks again for the information retrieved in the different topics!  :climber:

Welcome aboard, bismouth! That's some entry post!

  :salute:

Thanks for sharing! I'd say keep the green scales, they're cool and not very common. Polish them and you'll get them to look as new.

Welcome, and great tool selection. I've got the exact same one only with a different layer order. And I vote to keep the green scales.

I've always been too lazy to polish the scales so I just remove the worst scratches and claim to enjoy the "user" look.

Thanks !

Any advice for the polishing of the scales?

I can't really recommend this solution because it may well be that I've been lucky but... Acetone melts the plastic and can as such buff up a shine if used very carefully. I've done it with a cloth dampened with acetone. The only real advantage to this method would be if you don't have any polishing compound since acetone is a bit more common, e.g. in nail polish remover. These days I have a couple of different compounds at home but tend to go with a fairly common polishing crème on a piece of cloth, works wonders for lots of small stuff and can usually be done to a fairly high level with no tools required.

Welcome to the forum Bismuth! That is a great first mod  :salute: Now I've got the urge to try something similar. I agree with some of the others that you should keep the green scales, just give them a bit of a polish and they'll be gleaming in no time. I use Flitz metal polish and an old t-shirt and it works wonders.
