I understand completely.  That was li,e the question, which would you grab if running out to help a relative after some disaster.  I just what is packed in items that I would bring, I came up with 5-6 different SAKs

Going strictly by what I have:

1 layer-Bantam is the only single layer I have, and it will stay that way.  I really don't like them.
2 layer-Tie-Tinker/Spartan
3 layer-Climber.  It was the first SAK I bought, and I still have it.
4 layer-Huntsman
4+-Deluxe Tinker.  It really is a tiny bit skinnier than a 5, and wider than a 4, so I slipped in an extra category.
5 layer-Ranger
6 layer-Handyman now has a competitor, the Craftsman
7 layer-Champion
8 layer-SwissChamp

The Vic 111mm Tradesman. It has my sawmill quartet: Woodsaw, metal file, pliers, and phillips, without going to more layers.

I forgot about the Baby Cobra XS. Thx for reminding me!!!! I was going to order one a few months back after reading of them here. That might be nifty.

I found a baby Vice-grip awhile back also, but I carry it in my utility waist pack. Here it is with my EXECUTIVE.

The Knipex Baby Cobra XS in a leather slip might carry  quite well even in dress slacks. Thx again.

I see that this thread hasn't been added to in a few months, but it seems like an interesting idea so i'll add in my list.

1 layer: Alox solo
2 layer: Tinker small
3 layer: Farmer
4 layer: Fieldmaster
5 layer: Troubleshooter

Most of these are pretty easy to decide, but the small tinker definitely has lots of competition in the two layer spot. The pioneer, rambler, walker, and even the serrated spartan are all great two layers.

3 Climber 91mm
4 Huntsman 91mm

I’m mostly on the 2 layers alternating between a Classic, Alox Cadet or a 91mm Spartan.

Interesting topic. I've found that what I carry changes based on what I'm planning to do and whether I'm at home or out.

1 layer - Don't own any.
2 layer - Pioneer Alox
3 layer - Climber
4 layer - Tie: Explorer, Deluxe Tinker (one of those times where the "what I'm planning to do" comes into play)
5 and 6 layer - Don't own any.
7 layer - Champion (my first SAK, bought in the early '80s)
8 layer - SwissChamp

All 91mm models.

I'm also usually carrying a 58mm MiniChamp, but I don't know how you count the layers on it.

58mm: Bijou (3), Classic SD (7), Mini Champ Plus (mod), Alox Classic SD, Rambler (3), Companion
65mm: Wenger Esquire
74mm: Executive
85mm: Evolution S557, Traveler,
