True utility tools any good??

Seen quite a few of these going for cheap. Anyone had any experience with them? They look like cheap knock offs of the leatherman piranha/ CS - has anyone actually tried them? Do they compare?

I have / had several of their small keychain-pens and a one-piece-tool. To be honest, the small carabines that were part of the packages were the best investment. The pens last quite well, the opt felt cheap and not very well made

I have a lot of their gear. Overall not that bad. They always give me the impression as good value for the money. The little water tight plastic containers they ship in are a nice bonus. Some of their items are and feel cheap however. I find this to be true about their bullet stash.

Cheers. Do you have either of the above? The Sharkey or the 7? If you do are those ones that feel cheap or good value? Those any good or come close to LM numbers/ piranha or CS or equivalent  Gerber?

Chako I’m impressed I managed to find tools you don’t have! Very jealous of your collection (especially your leatherman’s) Cheers anyway, might pick one up next time I call in trespass (may not be for a while).

They are ok...not fantastic tools. Not bad value for money though.

Yeah...they are prolific these days with new models. Hard to keep up.

Just trying to organize them at the moment. They were just thrown willy nilly into a deep drawer. Maybe if I make them neater, they would be easier to find next time around. That and I suspect I may have a few more buried somewhere else in the other storage cabinets.

Chako Looking good!  Prefer the look of your leatherman collection though- just wish I had the spare cash to build my own collection like that... all my mt’s are in service a wave + in the house and another in the car, a surge for work, a wingman in the wife’s car and a CS and spartan on my keys.

I need to take a photo (or better yet, since cheap, buy one) next time I was there, but I was in a local feed store the other day, and I noticed there's a bigger Smart Knife, called the Smart Knife+ with a nail puller/pry bar and a bit driver on board, and the knife has a pocket clip instead of a carabiner. I have to admit, I kinda like this one, even though I was most certainly not impressed by the regular SmartKnife, which has been relegated to a truck tool.

I don't know about of a lot of their stuff, I really love the Fixr. I think it's very underappreciated.

With True Utility, I go all the way back to the original Scarab (not the one with the extra "flaps") and so on, mainly gifts from my well-meaning late mother.

I have to say that, by and large, they are not the best quality.

I'm going to get this wrong, but here is roughly what I've had:-

Original Scarab
Travel Bug
Dog Tag
LED Torch

None of which were especially good, and the torch lost three LEDs in the first few weeks of ownership.

HOWEVER

I also have the Waiter's Mate bottle opener (corkscrew, cap lifter and foil blade) and MY GOODNESS, it's better quality than my Le Creuset one. It's the only tool of theirs I have kept, and I dearly love it.

Make of that what you will.

In my head they were known online as "Toerags" for a while (no doubt based on the word "tuareg"), but I may be confused.

Cheers, Decided to opt against and put the money I would spend on a 7 towards a leatherman PS4 instead and I’m glad I did. It’s a cracking little key ring tool

I picked up a Sharkey yesterday for having passed a difficult training class, and after messing with it for a day, I believe I'm going to return it.

It's cute, and does handle a couple functions that I miss, due to being restricted on what I can carry for work. With that said, I do feel as if a little refinement could make it a heck of a lot more usable. The pry edge is too thick, as are the screwdriver ends, and the o-rings are too pliable, in my opinion.

I may end up giving the SwissTech Micro Slim or 5.11 EDT tool a shot next.
