DIY Spirit Carrying Solution
on: December 30, 2020, 10:15:18 PM
I have been thinking lately of a better way to carry my Spirit. Sometimes I like belt carry with a flexible sheath, another day I like to use the leather sheath, and the next day I just want to throw it in my pocket.
The problem with almost every tool is, that they end up horizontally at the bottom of your pocket. Annoying and uncomfortable to say the least. So for my Gerber MT's I use a P7 clip attached to a small double sided carabiner. I clip it to the outside of my pockets, and this ensures that the MT stays in an upright or vertical position.

The problem with the Spirit is, that the only point to attach that carabiner is on the side of the tool (corkscrew attachment point). This causes the tool to fall back into the horizontal position once attached to the pocket:

To counter this, I used a piece of leather strap or thin wire made into a loop through the corkscrew hole. Something like this:

Then I would attach the carabiner onto that loop. Unfortunately this makes the corkscrew hole unusable, and it was also annoying while using the pliers. It was also fiddly to attach the carabiner back onto the loop.

Last night I had an idea for a solution and tried it out today. I made a hook out of some aluminum, that hooks to the underside of the corkscrew attachment point. It simply slides in and out. I will have to test it long term, but wanted to share anyway

That looks like a very nice solution!  I like the stealthiness of it.  Hope it works out for you!  :tu:
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Interesting solution.  I had tried clips that stick to the side with adhesive but still the pocket organizer is my favorite.

I have tried that too, but I dislike pocket clips for several reasons. Especially If they can’t be removed quickly.
Will see how this goes. With the EDC challenge over, the Spirit will surely get more pocket time again.

Nifty solution, nicely executed, SVL!  :like: :like: Personally I quite like the nylon sheath on my belt which means I don’t notice it as they are bit too heavy for a pocket imo...

That is the beauty of the P7clips. I carry the MP600 with one of those clips attached to my pocket, and I can hardly feel its weight. Completely different than just having it loose in the pocket.
