Glad it is healing and you will son be able to start physical therapy.  If it is anything like mine was, you will come to hate rubber bands and putty, but it will help.
I'm deep into hating the putty now lol!

This is what it looks like now, bit longer and narrower than my left thumb

Looking better... I can actually look at that for more than a few seconds.  ;)
Where did the graft come from?

Great healing progress  :tu:
From my experience with my thumb it becomes skinny due to the lack of use.
That will come back to a more normal shape when you fully use it again.

Agree.  When I injured my thumb, by the time I was able to start physical therapy it was thin and weak from not being able to use the muscles.  It will gradually build back up.

They took it from the bottom side of my forearm, which has taken longer to heal!

It's right where I set my arm down on everything

Here is for a speedy recovery!
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

Finishing off my workman's comp claim (kinda) and still slowly using my thumb more and more.

Have to think about use my left or right hand for every task is fairly annoying, the skin graft still breaks pretty easy if it hits anything. And I gotta keep the hair trimmed

I’m just now seeing this topic, at the time it was released I was going through some health troubles myself. Holy smokes, I spent couple of years working on such sanders daily and thought of them being relatively harmless. Glad I didn’t find out for myself and for sure glad you are recovering well !
Will it ever grow a nail back or it will be covered in skin ?

Nail and nail bed was removed in the initial accident, surgeon said there was some slivers of "matrix" (bed?) Down the sides of my thumb that had to be removed before the graft went in.

She's had cases where some of the nail bed was missed, and the nail that grew looked more like a horn or curled nail

One of the options for surgery was grafting half my big toe nail onto my thumb, but it's not always successful AND if it is, the nail could be crooked or grow up at an angle...not sure who would risk that??

Yea, I wouldn't try it either.
Hope that spot gets tougher and it won't get in your way

Glad it is healing.

It will get less sensitive as time goes on.  How to do tasks with the least pain and irritation will eventually become second nature.  Unfortunately, none of that will happen as fast as you want it to, but it will happen.

I realized that as I was reading this, I was unconsciously feeling my thumb that I injured almost 20yrs ago.  For the longest time my thumb nail was two separate overlapping segments that formed a ridge down the center, so I understand your concerns.

I was unconsciously protecting mine by wrapping my fingers around it, and I never injured mine.  :o  Well, that's not true, but mine was minor in comparison.  It's a good reminder to the rest of us to pay attention and be careful.
