UK buyers beware!
on: January 21, 2021, 09:55:09 AM
It looks like this Brexit lark is going to cost us a bundle. We will have to check out exactly what stuff is going to cost from Europe
A warning tale:-

Thoughts for the day:
For Mechanics - "Amateurs built the Ark.....Professionals built the Titanic!"  - British comedian
For Bodyworkers - "Aerodynamics are for people who cannot build engines." - Enzo Ferrari
For Drivers - "Hey, let's be careful out there" - Sgt Esterhaus
For Me - "Brain the size of a planet and they ask me to park the car" - Marvin the paranoid android
For All - "Live long and prosper" - Mr Spock.

When I put a £60 item from UK Amazon into my basket and specified Republic of Ireland, the list price went to just under £50 when they took off the UK taxes, and back up to £60 when they applied Republic of Ireland taxes.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Yeah Pabs stuff below about 22 euro can work out cheaper I think.

I think below 150 roughly the same ? As UK vat is removed and Irish added which are both 20 odd percent give or take ?
and above that you're paying import duties as well as vat, not 100% on that though so check it out.

I do know I got reamed ordered some parts, used addresspal and it cost me - paid UK vat and then customs charged based on that and AnPost happily charged me processing fees. We live and learn  ;) And I'm still waiting for the stuff ! So using those services is out for me in future.

So Manorcom not just UK buyers beware it goes both ways

No smurf.

I can't believe that, after 4 years of this, that people still didn't realise that 'taking back control' and rest of the smurf that was spouted was going to hit them in the pocket.  The only smurfers who will do well out of the whole smurfshow are the rich smurfs at the top of the smurf heap.

  :dunno: I hear ya !

I dont want to sail anywhere close to politics but I think over the next while as reality bites that the agreements will be refined hopefully for the better of all.

It is possible to retain your sovereignty and Freedom while having free trade with your neighbors.  It just takes parties willing to do it.   :dunno:

No more worrying abut bendy bananas being illegal

I assume Heinnie and Amazon UK products, as well as the UK GEC dealer products will be taxed as the US products do now in Europe, so there will be little reason to buy from them. The US sites that are cheaper anyway will benefit, as well as the EU based sites.

I was tempted to put the famous statement of the UK education secretary here.........

Al : "Women!"

DKS, Rough Riders are now over £20 at Heinnies. I think buying sharp and shinies in the UK may have become a rich mans game

I would assume that non EU products like knives and tools made in the US, Switzerland, China could become cheaper in the UK now, provided these countries agree to sell them cheaper to the UK tan to EU countries. Theoretically the UK leaders are able to make such an agreement now.

You'll have to switch to whiskey instead.
