Old Victornox gift
on: January 23, 2021, 11:17:17 PM
I was given an old Victornox, well used, knife yesterday from a friends deceased parent.

Does anyone know the approximate age of this?

Is it truly a Victornox?

It says ROST FREE, but there is obviously some light rust in places.

I plan to clean it up, but how far I go is dependent on it age and if its a real Victornox.

Thanking you in advance

They started making them in the 60s I think but am not sure till when and how to date the 74mm line properly. I think by the tang stamp and the orange peeler.

I'm not seeing the gut hook on the orange peeler and its blade doesn't seem to have serrations so probably one of the earlier ones.

Hopefully someone can date it better

Nice Director! Single leaf spring too. Does it have a "Victoria" tang stamp on the other side?

I've have cleaned it up a bit, but I'll do a better job later.

Cannot find any other stamps anywhere, there is a small chip out of the blade up near the tip which will not clean up unless I do serious sharpening (which I wont)

The crap in the nail file is coming out with just a toothbrush and the spots of rust are simply rubbing off.

The nail file is a little loose and goes past the centre line ( probably the most used function)

The scissors work perfectly and have a screw ( which may give some indication of age)

Apart from the loose nail file, every blade and tool is positive and firm in good condition.

It's really quite a nice old tool, one for the collection.

I was on the phone so didn't even see it had a spring

I'll move it to the Swiss board for more views. Maybe someone there can date it better.

And I do believe I can see the serrations on the orange peer. A photo of the other side would help :)

Thanks for the pictures. I think it's from the early 1970s. Before that I believe there would have been a Victoria tang stamp. Newer ones don't have the single leaf spring.

But dating SAKs is really not my forte :)

My estimate is mid-‘70s to very early ‘80s.

I’d expect a Victoria stamp on the back if it was ‘73 and earlier.

It might help to see the opposite side of the file. Sometime prior to ~’76 the tip was no longer beveled for the nail cleaner. I suspect this one is not beveled/rounded.
