SAKWiki Main Page is about to reach 2 million hits

Hey Team,

Well the title says it all

The hit counter on the main page is at 1,975,676 - Well it will be more than that now ;)
The Wiki main menu gets about 1,000 hits per day (Still find that hard to believe)
So I guess sometime next month - We'll hit 2m    :woohoo:
We'll let you know  :D

The actual hits will, in reality, be more than that, as we had the Wiki stats collection turned off for a year or two - So we'll be well over two million - But no evidence to prove it    :cry:

As an FYI - The average hits per day for a typical Wiki model page is about 10 - Quite a bit more for the popular pages - Champion, Soldier 1961 etc

The Wiki continues to be the de facto reference for SAKs and you see it quoted all over the Facebook SAK groups and also in ebay ads etc etc

Many thanks to all the editors past and present who keep the Wiki up to date (the task is never ending :o)
And of course to you all for providing input to the various Wiki pages with your photos, corrections, observations, requests,comments etc etc 

I think I mentioned this once before - The MTo hits are in a different league (above) the Wiki as I guess the chatty nature of the forums is very different to a reference database.

Terrific news! Any idea on how to turn these visits into some sort of revenue to help MTo? That'd be great!

Yes - Always wondered that myself.

Of course we have the donation button there now - but I have no idea how much, if any, revenue this is generating (I have asked!!   :pok: )
And occasionally I rally a couple of the FB groups to donate - with very modest results..

But I think none of the above are too successful, which, to be honest, does p1ss me off a bit
I know how much work goes into maintaining the Wiki  :o  and when you see it used so extensively - for instance whole chunks quoted in ebay ads, links from FB pages etc - it is a little galling

I think most folk think: "Well it's the Internet - So it's free" and/or they are just too selfish to donate.

I also believe that the boss man wants to keep everything voluntary - As I guess making it a chargeable service could kill it off - and of course is against the spirit of the internet
We do get the ad. revenue - But that is also kept to a minimum - So that we don't totally p1ss off the users

Well MTO donations help pay for the SAKwiki server bill as well, as it's actually the same server, same bill ;)

We could always try a bigger banner type donations draw on the SAKwiki about once a year or so like wikipedia does. It's how they pay their server bills too.

And yes, thanks to all the past end present admins, editors and contrbutors to the wiki. Without all your imput, permissions to use pics and corrections you report to us SAKwiki wouldn't be the site it is today. :hatsoff:

SAKWIKI is such a wonderful resource.  HUGE thanks to ALL who made and make it great.  Such a terrific effort to amass the amazing collection of information on SAKs.  The passions and hard work by ALL from beginning to current is not lost on me and I hope all who visit recognize this is done purely on passion.

I've never really understood the way the TikiWiki stats work :)

I wonder if we could add Google Analytics to the wiki. It would give us lots of insight into not only the number of visitors but also the "flow" through the individual pages, search engine stats, site search stats, information about broken links, wrong redirects etc. Really powerful stuff (when combined with the Search Console and PageSpeed Insights).

But it's probably not something to be discussed here ;)
