Day 27
No blade was used, but the KERT did help open a new Mora

Nice Companion! :like:
There is also a Companion Spark, basically a Companion with a ferro rod in the handle and 90° spine.

For the first time in the whole challenge, I needed a blade, and nothing else would do. Because it was at work, and I was working with paper, I used the cheap X-Acto knife I keep in my desk for just such an emergency. Also because it was work, there are no photos.

Artist's rendition.

I contemplated the Companion Spark, especially because it is a collaboration with Lite My Fire which makes my favorite ferro rod.  If I like this one and can figure out a mod to make the holster left-handed, I may get the Spark.

Day 28
The YeoCho magnifying glass helped me inspect Fisher’s paw that he was favoring a little.  Fortunately, it was just a tiny pebble caught between the pads.

You can write whatever you want. but all I see is "canine detective uses magnifying glass to take a bite out of crime."

Digging around in a box of junk looking for an old HDMI adapter, I found my Gerber Zip Hex!

Yaaaaaaaaay!

It's a shame these are discontinued. They were great. It helped me install new pedals (I have full-sized hex keys I could use, but why not?)

I forgot to ask — does it count if the guy at Subway used one of those weird sandwich-folding knives on my 12" Turkey Breast on 9-Grain Wheat?

It's amazing that your Rebar can drink beer. Is that a special function in the knifeless version?

(Sorry. My Obtuse-o-Tron is set to 11 tonight.)

Day 29

Unfortunately, the same paw was bothering him again this morning.  This time I examined it again using magnifying glass and headlamp.  He had 4 little seed pods stuck deep between his paw pads.  The tweezers helped pull them out.

Some soothing salve and a little chicken helped ease the irritation.

That is an interesting look tool.  I love small pocket sized tools, when they work.

I used a 2mm hex key to work out a knot today. It didn't work as well as a corkscrew, an old Wenger awl, or an actual marlinspike, but it got the job done.

The only blades in my computer are the fan blades, so I'm pretty sure the time I spent in The GIMP making these images is still challenge-friendly:

Large and small!

This badge (in two sizes) is straight up just ReamerPunch's image from waaaaaaaay at the beginning of the challenge. I liked his basic idea, so I ran with it. I simplified the image, shrunk it, cleaned it up, and added some text. Then I cropped it, simplified it, shrunk it, and cleaned it up again.

I know we have several days left, so obviously there's a lot of time for other ideas. I may do a few different iterations myself, just for funzies.

(Image removed from quote.)

Since this is close to the end, I just wanted to remind everyone that we have the badge design ready. :pok:

That "when they work" part is very important. I originally bought the Zip Hex as a silly novelty, but it turned out to be a real champ. I thought I'd lost it forever, and the most reasonably priced one I found on the intertubes is in Australia. I'm glad I found mine before I made that purchase. It would have been a long wait, and not super cheap.

Yes it is.  I sharpen the corner on many of mine to make them work better at box opening.

The only tool I used today was Staying Up Way Too Late After A Long Day. Derp.

I'll have to think of a suitable picture when I can think straight.
