:iagree:  It makes me wonder if that's possibly a rationale for adopting the bigger knife  :dunno:
I took the 111 out for a spin for a few days in the woods and boy am I glad I did. :ahhh

After our recent 30DC I decided that it was too much knife for me, but that was me just doing laps between work and home.  I'd become rather annoyed with the bottle opener, which was preventing me from quickly and easily accessing the innards of my bottles without putting up a fight

But I've been since been reacquainted with the OHO blade and put it to good use.  This will be my go-to for outdoor adventures for the foreseeable future. Even though its more blade than I normally need, with cold slippery hands, the 111 was better than the 93.  and that's an advantage.

Used the mighty Workchamp pliers to retrieve something I dropped down into a spot I couldn't reach.  After that, I used the blade to cut bananas for Mrs R's smoothie.

I created a post many years ago testifying to my fondness for the 111 knives.

Here is a slide lock Cheese knife, which I just bought, with three other 2 layer 111's.

I used the 111mm OHT again this weekend on a camping trip.  It's become my favorite camping knife for sure  (for the time being... I should say )

The blade still feels a bit long for the way I strip bark and such.  But it opens up easier than if it had a nail-nick, and that's been a plus.  Also, having the saw in my pocket has been great, since I've been using a twig stove.  I do wish I got the Forrester sometimes - since the corkscrew is more useful to me around the campsite.  But the One-Handed Trekker is iconic

But these SAKs have a way of multiplying, you know.  I have two now... a third one... an Adventurer has been in my online shopping cart for ages, but that has a Phillips.  I want an Adventurer since it's a 2 layer and the blade has a half-stop.  One of these days I'll pick up a Forrester, but I'm having way too much fun with the OHT to put it aside for now.

Toolguy, that's a very nice collection you have!  I'm down to two, the Workchamp and the RAF Hunter.  I've always thought of them as 21st Century SAKs.  I carried a 111 GAK as my duty knife for several years before I picked up a Swisstool.

Well, I bought a batch with a 111 in it, but I don't know what model it is yet. I'll try to remember to post pictures when it arrives and I find out what it is.

Yeah it's a batch of 10 knives, some of which appear to be crud, but the 111 was in there and looks to be in decent shape. It's a black one, I think. They only showed it with the main blade out. I can see it appears to have the standard two openers. It appears to have something else in there too, I'm not sure what. They never said in the description what brands or models of knives were in the batch. Consequently it sold quite low in price--what I paid for the whole batch plus shipping I should be able to sell the Vic for (if I choose to).

Here's the item (I already won it).

Has anyone seen my Victorinox Swiss Army Camouflage 111 mm with red Schweizer Wappen?
I'm sure I left it somewhere, but now I can't find it anymore...

I'm trying to research Mariners---I'm thinking this is a Skipper, right? (Not Skipper Pro, which is different).

Nice score!

I like my Skipper a lot. Fun to carry and that shackle wrench is good for awl sorts of stuff. I do wish there were a plain edge version, but I recognize the utility of a serrated blade in a boating environment.

Congratulations on the win!   :tu:

Yep. It was awesome to hold, and awesome sold. I just sold it to a buyer in Chile, and I'm shipping it out shortly.

Yes, I may have had it in the house for a week. Evidently it's a hot item. He paid full price, too, $80. That's more than they sell for new.... I put it that high because I suspected some might pay a little extra for a nice one with a slide button. It may also be that few people sell them to Chile....

I've never sold to Chile before--I hope there's no problem with customs. I have it labeled as eBay directed, guess we'll see....

I must say, I do believe this is (in my opinion) the most handsome model Victorinox ever made.

My son, the sailor, picked up one and tried it.  He loved it except that when he needed to open it for work, the Trekker one hand opening blade would have been a whole lot better.  Typically he is either wearing gloves, freezing, has one hand already occupied, or some combination of the above
I have it upstairs.  It's a beautiful knife.

Yes, I'm sure there are some drawbacks. Not a sailor myself, so....

Here are the three iterations of the Vic Firemen.

This appears to have been the precursor to the Rescue Tool.

From top to bottom:
1.Slide lock.

2.Liner lock.

3.One hand liner lock.

We've been packing, and that turned out to be great for finding SAKs, including the Hunter XT with Philips driver.

All blades open photos are always risky  and just a touch to the serrated blade nicked me.
