Hook on a 58 mm..?
on: January 31, 2021, 10:19:10 PM
Would it be possible to transplant a hook onto a 58 mm minichamp?

Probably yes, but it would take up at least two layers and you would have to fill in the pivot hole to compensate for the difference in pin size and then drill it to 58mm pins. And then I,'m not sure how useful it would be with those thin pins holding it in place. They would bend easily to any significant pull force.

The layers wouln't be the problem. My non-existing modding skills are.

But theoretically it's possible. All of the backside tools have a 2 mm pin? Which size are the pins on the 58mm..?

Just checked the width of the hook: It's about the same as the combo tool.

That looks like 3 layers actually.

1.5mm for the 58mm and 2.25mm for the hook pivot.

The hook works as a back tool, because you can use your whole hand to grab the SAK and have the hook in the middle, distributing the weight load. With it in one end of the SAK, the hook use won't be so easy/useful.

Yes, you can. When I try to assemble 91mm awl to my minichamp, I did some research and I found some photos who did it before. If you can not find them, I can upload some as reference.
Anyway, I tried too. To me, it is too ugly to have the hook assemble into 58mm size knife. but it is very nice to  have 91mm awl in minichamp.

What do you want to do with the hook on the 58mm? Proportionally, it would look more like a hook with a 58mm than a 58mm with a hook.
