The quest for (my) perfect SAK to EDC...
on: February 10, 2021, 09:26:00 AM

That’s where I’m at right now...

I need:
- Phillips in-line screwdriver
- scissors
- Nail file
- Blade
- Bottle opener
- corkscrew
- ballpoint pen

Pocket size for a right front jean pocket... So 3 layers (4 for the cybercompactool) is the max.

The 3 winners are:

- Compact cybertool (mod)
- Yeoman (mod) with the Phillips/magnifier layer in the middle position
- Climber with the can opener modded as a Phillips screwdriver

(Both have the nail file in the hook)

I can’t choose and I’m switching between these 3 each day 😂

During my research, I've got also an ancestor of the well know Explorer:

The Passenger !

But I can't EDC it, I think it is too valuable.

The little Manager is a good option because he’s got everything I need... but the size of the blade is not big enough.

Any toughts? Am I missing a knife?  :pok:

Nope. I think that Ciber Compact is it! Great setup!

My first vote is to go with the Climber...as it seems it has everything you want based on your list.
You didn't mention needing a magnifying glass.

Since you like the Manager, you could always carry it along with a single bladed knife like an Opinel, Douk-Douk, Spyderco.

The solution it seems is a Mega Manager (Manager with larger blade)...wouldn't that be dreamy!  :dd:
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

The CyberCompact is really nice.  Looks like it ticks all the boxes.  It also adds quite a bit of function having the extra bits.

Question.  Do you use those extra bits?

If yes then you've got your EDC.

If no then Yeoman mod.

I am not a fan of changing the can opener

Clearly the best of all... Just it takes 2 layers :(

I'm working on the single blade thing. But it is hard for me to EDC a simple "one fonction" tool

Well, to be honest, not so often. That's why I'm struggling :D

The major outcome could be that I've just discovered that there is a lot of space unused between the bit driver and the bit holder... Might be useful for a memory card/usb stick :D

I agree I wouldn't change the can opener as you lose a function.  The can opener can work on Phillips, some Robertsons, and some Torx screws.  I don't know how modifying it affects it.  I have finally settled on a Climber with a Classic SD on my keychain.  I used to carry a Super Tinker because of recessed screws but realized the Classic SD can handle most recessed screws I encounter as they are usually not very heavily screwed down.  Not to mention you can you the Classic SD in a normal screwdriver position.

I agree with Aloha I would go unmodified Climber and Manager for you.  Sorry if that doesn't help with the SAKs you already have.  Also if you need a 3D Phillips instead of a Classic SD (Manager) these can work

https://www.amazon.com/Screwdriver-KeyChain-Keyring-Phillips-Driver/dp/B07DDJ6KY4

I like the Classic SD though because it is more stylish and you get the file and backup scissors to the Climber scissors.  The fact that you know how to mod your SAK maybe the best solution would be a Climber with a Classic SD file (or off the 84mm Sportsman and modify it like the Classic SD end) in place of the small blade and plus scales with the pen.  I don't know if the is doable but just a suggestion.

Nice.
My ideal custom SAK EDC would have
 alox scales,
 corkscrew,
awl,
one blade,
one cybertool screwdriver,
one ineline philips screwdriver,
Scissor
Flat head screwdriver with bottle opener.
Small file with nail cleaner
I guess that i'm already at 4 lines. Damn....
