If they closely at the customs form it says "Gift".

We need to start sending a hand written letter, stating clearly it's a gift. With an e-mail address and/or phone number, if the Customs want to confirm it.

The Odyssey is at it's end. The eagle has landed. We have contact. And it's fabulous. :dd:

I had to pay some ransom to the keepers of the lost Ark, but came off better than I expected so I'm a happy camper. Or I will be once I get a chance to go camping with you new friend.

Thanks again, Nix, for this great thread, contest and giveaway and the nice postcard and sticker. :2tu: And of course the dreamy BRKT Bravo 1 :woohoo:

Unfortunately, no sign of life from the customs here...
Worse part: the package arrived in the country real quick, and is less than 100km from home. But still stuck with the customs...

It really is.  I like the sheath set up very much.  I cannot wait to see it out in enki's outdoors.  It'll be fun getting to know it and carrying it.

I look forward to it too, but with the current situation, it is likely to be some time before that is possible. As of today we are in lockdown and can't leave our county of residence, and with snow and hunting seasons and bear mating season in our clubs caving region, we're not likely to go up there till mid May. :ahhh

We plan to have a course for beginner cavers starting April with 4 weekend camping trips and no tents ;) The prospects have to build their own shelter as best they can, they get a tarp and some paracord. That's always fun to watch. Especially if it rains or snows and they didn't do a very good job with it. By the end of the course their shelters improve exponentially ;)

So my first teating and carry will for now have to be at home and in the local woods. And it doesn't make sense to go camping in a forest you can walk home from in less than half an hour :P

Good news!

Vítor's gift arrived this saturday!
(The delay was fault of the brazilian customs alone, Nix, U.S. mail and brazilian mail services did their jobs very well).

The little boy is very, very happy!
He loved the gift. Every part of it!

Thank you Nix! You're awesome

Vitor was a great participant and his prize was well earned!   :tu:

I have become very pleased with my Signature Lite--I use it awl the time--so I hope Vitor likes it too!

Apparently Felix Immler carries a Signature Lite as his EDC. YouTube: .

I am sure you will make sure he is safe with it!

(I thought the bandana was a cool idea given the nature of the contest....and...who doesn't need a banada?  :D )

That looks like an excellent starter kit for the junior MTOer. :2tu: I'm glad it finally arrived at your place. I was just thinking about your part of the prize a few days ago.

Vitor are a great fan of Felix Imler's vídeos!

The little boy told me this weekend that the  Victorinox Signature Light is the most usefull 58mm SAK that he ever saw. He's very impressed with the flashlight. And the silvertech scales are really beautifull.

This Sunday he asked me to put a Vic chain and lanyard on the VSL. And a small leather cover to protect the scales.

And spent some time with the bandana praticing some knots. And discussed with me all the good uses of a good bandana.

He noticed the Montana's capital, have the same name of his sister ( my little Helena is still a baby, but I gave her a pink Sak)

Nix, you really hit the mark with all this gift!

(He asked me to take this picture to MT.o people)

Outstanding!  I'm really glad he appreciates the Signature Lite's finer points.

And very glad to hear he's practicing his knots!

Well knotty people here is an amazing coincidence and a nice little story.

Do you guys have roadside pickups? This is when you have large items, or a lot, of household waste, and once a month the council come and pick up the stuff for disposal.
It's quite a thing here in Australia - And some people chuck out some really, really nice stuff - I guess they want a change, or are moving house, kids grown up a bit and the bike is too small etc etc

So a few weeks after this GAW ended I was out on my mountain bike and had a puncture - Silly me - I did not have my spare inner tube etc etc with me
So I walked out of the bush and phoned home for a 'rescue' - My wife came out to save me and noticed a big pile of stuff by the side of the road a few streets from where I was rescued.
We went to check it out and there was some fabulous stuff there - So we went to town!!    :tu:    :D

Anyway why am I telling this story here?

Well one of the items was this little display in the pics below. Of course as a knot fan I snapped it up. What a find!    :mail:
A day or two later I was cleaning it up and restoring it a bit and discovered that on the back it said:
"Dearest Daniel on your 12th birthday, With love always Mama and Pa    19/10/2000 "    :ahhh
Now we did really well out of this pick up and we had to make two trips to collect all the items !! Well they did not all fit in our car with my bike too !
On the return trip we took a bottle of wine for the people and met young Daniel - Who of course is 32 now - I had knot seen the inscription at that time.

Well if it were me I would never throw away something like that - I am a sentimentalist - And love knots
But as they were throwing it out - I was very happy to give it a new life     :woohoo:
It's about to go up on my study wall
I took the knots out of the frame for the second picture as the focus did not work too well with the glass there.

Pretty nice huh?   ???

The knots are - Left to right:- Top to bottom
  • Bowline on the Bight
  • Bowline
  • Spanish Bowline
  • Reef Knot
  • Masthead Knot
  • Blood Knot Bend - To me this is a Fisherman's Knot
  • Life Belt
  • Clove Hitch
  • Surgeon's Knot
  • Figure-eight Knot
  • Overhand Knot
  • Double Sheet Bend
  • Anchor Bend
  • Sheet Bend

I think we got most of them - But a few knew ones maybe    :dunno:
