Micra Scissor Problem
on: March 05, 2017, 01:40:26 PM
Yesterday, I bought myself a new Micra, my first. Unfortunately, the rivet holding the two blades of the scissors together is extremely loose, and it has lots of side-to-side play.  It'll still cut, just not anything thin like cellophane snack cake wrappers or Scotch tape.

Is there any way to tighten it up without having to spend $10 to send it in on warranty?

  • Geometry cuts but the steel determines how long.

A dozen or more gentle taps with a small ball peen, is better than a couple heavy wacks.
Go slow.

Hammer and a Pin punch.

Here's how I do it on pliers.

Sorry for digging up this old thread.

I have a micra which is extremely old, more than 20 years. It holds a lot of sentimental value for me. Following instructions here to tighten the rivet as well as instructions elsewhere to sharpen the pair of scissors, I managed to get it to cut paper very well. However it will not cut thin plastic bags, just slips through. I'm beginning to wonder whether it can be sharpened to cut plastic bags or did it work on these in the first place. Advise needed so I know whether I should still be trying to sharpen it. Thanks in advance!

Cool diggin'

Most my Micra do cut thin plastic bags
Make sure blades are crossing each other from start to end

But honestly, I wouldn't risk ruining them

I have quite a lot of multitools. But I just like to EDC this particular tool so I can be reminded of this person whenever I used it. =)

Ah, sentimental value. I understand perfectly.
