Wow ! My first ever GAW win (well, the odds were a bit better than usual)  8)
Thanks Aloha for being so generous and helping others discover this tool !
Of course I will be posting my first impressions of the PST on this thread as soon as possible, as I can’t wait to carry and try it out to see what all the hype is about. You just don’t see any of these in the Old World (at least, I haven’t yet). :dunno:

Congratulations Frenchephaistos you're going to enjoy the PST. I only recently got a PST myself thanks to another member of this generous community and I can tell you it packs a lot of utility in a slim and light weight package.

Massive shout-out to gregozedobe! :salute: :salute: :salute:

In true MTO (and ANZAC) spirit he offered to send me a Pocket Survival Tool as I have not owned, handled or even seen one (in person).
It arrived accompanied by some keychain lights a week ago. Conditions here have only recently been conducive to taking half-decent photos.

It is dated 0694. As primitive as this PST seems I keep needing to remind myself that this was made 11 years into production.
I am familiar with the style and construction as I possess a Super Tool (and a half  ;)).

My initial thoughts: Wow! It's smaller and much slimmer than I was expecting.

However, it has a lot of functions for it's diminutive size. I like how it is self-contained and no extra bits or blades are required to be carried with it (handy as they may be). I may consider adding a pocket clip as it almost seems too small to bother with sheath-carrying it.
I like how simple it is and how few parts there are compared to later multitools with a similar number of implements. It folds neatly away and snaps together with little fuss. The smaller tools tend to clump together as they are unfolded and can be a bit hard on the fingers if you have short nails as I currently do.

I am not a heavy user but I have used the pliers and screwdrivers so far. I can see how the handles could be uncomfortable on the hands if using the pliers a lot. I look forward to trying the file and wire cutters.

It's nice to own a piece of history and it's also still a very capable tool.
Thanks again Greg!

Well done Greg.

Great shots and thoughts Syncop8r.  The super slim form and feature dense nature is exactly why I think the PST still has a place in the modern MT user's pocket. :tu:

I have never owned one.  I would buy one from eBay, but I wouldn't know what to look for (or what to lookout for) and would probably get a damaged one or a fake.

It's like owning a piece of MT history!  :woohoo:
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

Ok, I did a lot of reading on PSTs (mostly here), then I picked a good candidate from eBay and purchased it.  It looks legit and in great shape.  I'll post a pic when it arrives.

OK, just got my PST II from Aloha’s GAW. He went the extra mile, having to send two separate tools in all because of the mystery of postal magics. Kudos to your generosity Aloha !

First thoughts after carrying it for less than a day :
• I know it has been said again and again, but boy is it SLIM and LIGHT ! Up until now, my most used was the Wave, and my most carried, a Juice S2. The PST feels as big as the wave but weighs about the same as a Juice. And in the pocket, maybe even better than the juice, that now feels kinda clunky (never thought I’d say that !). Closed, its the best MT I’ve ever handled, rounded and soft edges. I don’t carry big blades, but it the same footprint as a spyderco PM2 in the pocket, and packs much more.
• Better ruler than the Wave, however the construction gives the best place to inches (not very useful anywhere in the known universe outside of the US), but I guess the nice folks in Portland have the right to a little misguided preference. They’ve earned it.  :D
• Of course, once opened to the pliers, I’ll surprise no one by saying it is much rougher than any other MT, that’s where the wave beats it hands up. But probably not a problem, unless working for a long period of time, which is not my everyday use.
• Tool wise, I like the options. The scissors are really great ! They beat the wave by far. 4 drivers (like the juice) works well, I know from experience, even though we don’t use flat heads that much around here. But a full 3D Phillips, and I’m really happy. Probably my most used tool in the bunch. Is the can opener a combo tool that also opens beers ? I hardly ever use either, but I guess they are good to have.
• I don’t really like combo blades in general, and this one is 1/4th PE, 3/4 SE, I would have liked the other way around. However, it is not locking, which is necessary here in France.
• The file is probably one of the best I’ve seen, still have to use it before being sure of course. Fun fact I found out (years after everyone, I guess), but you can take the blade and file out without having to open the pliers, the good part of the unevenness of the tool construction I was complaining about when looking at the ruler.  :face palm:
All in awl (which is missing, but could the smallest screwdriver serve as one ?), I really love it. Time will tell if it will replace my beloved S2 for city EDC. I’ll keep the wave for outside activities for the saw.
It has gotten me to consider two tools I knew about from afar, but never understood as well as now that I have the PST : the Mini (good luck getting one of THOSE though) and the ("PST III") Bond. Not that I need any of them now that I have the PST II, just that I understand their DNA/use a bit better.
Again thanks for the GAW !

Sorry, no pics yet, as my camera is broken.  :ahhh

Great write-up French!  Very glad you like it after what sounds quite a journey.

PST II is a great urban multi.  :multi:

They'll multiply :like:

Its really fun to get the big letter and BO ones.  I went down the rabbit hole with Japanese PSTs, big letter, and finally my most prized possession a hollow rivet.  Its a helluva journey thats for sure.
