Pennsylvania Cutlers
on: September 14, 2022, 06:57:05 PM
I'm looking to diversify my collection away from SAKs a bit, so I thought I'd look into knives from manufacturers in my home state. So far I've found GEC and Case for current companies, as well as a large number of one man operations and Queen City for a historical one. Are there any particular brands (or individuals) I should be aware of? I'm mostly interested in folders, and bonus points if they're from Lehigh, Bucks, or Lehigh counties.

I don't know about anybody else making folders in PA, but I can point you towards a guy who made really nice fixed blades.  Matt Shaver of Wissahickon knives has since passed away, but he was a proud Pennsylvanian who named his company after a tributary of the Schuylkill River.  I'll bet you probably can find Wissahickon knives up there easier than I find them down here in Florida.  I had never heard of them before I got mine.

That is a beautiful knife.  I love the blade shape and marriage to the handle.

Is the blade a chisel grind?  Or, the blade thick?

Hopefully you will share more pictures in the October Dixie challenge.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

You'll have a fun journey of discovery.  I'm sure there are some lessor known makers in addition to the well known ones.  I was late to Case but I am so proud of my Case collection thus far.

When you think super cool knives, or should I say, when I think super cool knives I think Tracker.   http://www.drbeckknives.com
