Belt phone pouch
on: February 16, 2021, 05:22:23 PM
I use to carry my phone in a cordura belt pouch so I thought I could as well try to make myself one in leather.

The phone fits snugly in the main pocket. The front pocket has three pen slots and can take a small notebook.

I wanted to try this closure and I'm liking it -feels very secure ad is easy to use one-handed.

I like how it turned out although I'm already planning the next one  :)

Nice work! Does it dangle around much?

Thank you!
It is quite wide and not very thick so it sits flat on the hip with not much dangling or rolling around.
It also helps that it isn't overloaded unlike my overstuffed cordura one.

I have a larger pouch (more like a bag) in mind but haven't decided on how to make the sides. In a curve or in right angles, like you did.

How did you managed to align the holes? Are they the same distance apart awl the way or did you make any adjustments near the corners?

Still haven't decided if I'm having the sides folding inside, like you did, or outside (having the smooth side of the side leather against the rough side of the front/back leather).

The trick for this pouch were the tiny cutouts on the corners if the side panels. They allow the panels to fold to the shape of the pouch and pretty much disappear once everything is stitched.
The holes were evenly spaced, I trusted the leather's elasticity to make up for posibly needed corrections.

If you make the sides in a curve instead of squared the part to the inner side of the curve would need more closely spaced holes than the part to the outer side, but how much? Or would the aforesaid elasticity of leather be enough to allow the same spacing be used in all holes? Am I overthinking all this?
