Difference in Supertool Blades

I stumbled across this difference in the blade shapes on my Supertools earlier today - I'd never noticed it before.



The tool at the top in the picture is date stamped 0596, and you can just about make out that the clip-point is quite vividly concave. From the tip back to the straight back edge of the blade measures 1 full inch - you can't really miss it!

The second tool is dated 0297, and the clip point is quite radically different. Although the taper that forms the clip-point is equal in length (i.e. 1"), it is not concave, but a simple straight taper to the tip.

The third tool is also dated 1997, so that might confirm that there was a conscious decision to strengthen the tip in the later models of the Supertool.

The serrated blades are all identical, i.e. drop-point and have consistent shaping.

I thought I'd share that with you as I've nothing better to do  :P

 :tu: Cool Dave :) my oldest SuperTool is circa 97 and the newer is   :think: I believe a 00 model and they are the same so they must have changed it from 96 to 97 :salute: Brilliant deduction my dear Watson ::) :D

Oh for heaven's sake. Who cares? Don't you people have anything better to do than waste your time here on the computer each day, fondling those silly plier gadgets, looking them over with a microscope and trying to find every tiny difference between them? I mean really, you are grown men! Start acting like it! Don't you have chores to tend to or something? Why, if I sat around as much as you all do.............

I have a 97 and a 01 , both with the later blades .

Bob my 01 model has bigger nail nicks on the flat screwdriver and awl then the 97 model .

Perhaps we need to do a list on the Super Tool like Bob did with the PST ::) :D Only thing is noone seems to have a Super Tool older than 96  :think: unless someone is holding out on us >:(  :D

Ya know I just love the finish and the look of the Super Tool knife blades they just look so nice and rugged :drool:

The newer finish bead blast of the Core and Blast series type blades are great they just don't have the same appeal :-\

I guess the Super Tool and ST200 blades look more like they belong on a great quality knife or something :D

I think the one hand opening blades are superior to any other blade on a LM tool.. (especially the Charge blades!)

I'd agree with that I think, there's a bit of class about them, in the same way as the early PST "sabre" blades.

Now, having said that, the most useful blade I have on a LM is the serrated blade on the Core - there is NOTHING that baby can't handle!

Nail nicks are all the same on mine so it's possible that they changed that from 2000 to 2001

Also of note my Super Tool 200 dated 1005 has the bigger nail nicks like the 01 ST Dunc has :tu: (so it's likely that all the ST200s have the larger nail nicks) :)

Sometimes you have to really look hard because they are a little faint a flashlight may help

Remember not to open all the tools fully . Otherwise they will all lock open and you wont have another tool to part open to release the locked ones . If you do lock them all open you will haver to use a small screwdriver to lever up the lock bar .
