Sorry Sos! I misunderstood your intent there.

...

This thread is so much better than any thread asking about your ONE favorite knife. Even if it does narrow the scope in some way.  I can’t ever seem to whittle an answer down to one.  :dunno:

Even the what to grab in a fire situation...I mean I have two hands and can grab like 5 in each.  :D

  Speaking like a true SAKnight, not family album or pets, but 5 SAKs in each hand.

I understand completely.  That was li,e the question, which would you grab if running out to help a relative after some disaster.  I just what is packed in items that I would bring, I came up with 5-6 different SAKs

Favorite that I have, or favorite that I want?

Goodness gracious.

1. Have: Sentinel Clip Serrated. (Don't want to keep it).   1. That I want: Not a fan of 1-layer SAK's.
2. Have: Tinker.   2. Want: Not a huge fan of 2-layer SAK's, but I like my Tinkers and Spartans kicking around.
3. Have: Farmer.    3. Want: Uh... i like lots of 3-layer knives, have Super Tinker, Climber, Camper, Hunter. Can't think what I would like more....
4. Have: (coming) Fieldmaster.   4. Want: Deluxe Tinker?
5. Have: Ranger .   5. Want: TRADESMAN. This is actually my holy grail knife.
6. Don't  have.    6. Want: Late Craftsman with pliers.
7. Have: (Under repair) Champion. Want: CTL
8. Just Sold: Swiss Champ. Want: Swiss Champ.
11. Not real excited about getting an 11-layer one, but hey.

Jim, which Tradesman?  The Victorinox 111mm, or the Wenger 85mm?

David

My Mods: 58mm Workshop, 91mm Picnicker, CyberCompact

Some Fav's: 74mm's in general, Salesman, Pocket Tool Chest, MiniChamp, CyberTool 34/M, Compact
Likely to pick up soon:  Cheese Master, something with a pruner blade
Always keeping an eye out:  stainless with guilloche, interesting inlay logos
If I had a few extra hundred $:  91mm with long file, Wine Master

Going strictly by what I have:

1 layer-Bantam is the only single layer I have, and it will stay that way.  I really don't like them.
2 layer-Tie-Tinker/Spartan
3 layer-Climber.  It was the first SAK I bought, and I still have it.
4 layer-Huntsman
4+-Deluxe Tinker.  It really is a tiny bit skinnier than a 5, and wider than a 4, so I slipped in an extra category.
5 layer-Ranger
6 layer-Handyman now has a competitor, the Craftsman
7 layer-Champion
8 layer-SwissChamp

The Vic 111mm Tradesman. It has my sawmill quartet: Woodsaw, metal file, pliers, and phillips, without going to more layers.

Thick: CTL.

Thin: Executive.

No favs in between. Anything with pliers. I would almost take up modding to try to come up with an EXECUTIVE with nano pliers!!!

I was thinking about my favorite SAKs by layer and it is odd that I prefer different styles in different layers.

Great idea!

My 2p worth

1. Bantam Alox 84mm
2. Cadet Alox 84mm (Pioneer and Compact close contenders!)
3. Pioneer X 93mm
4. Huntsman 91mm
5. Ranger 91mm
6. Handyman 91mm
7. Champion 'c' 91mm - discontinued - my first SAK from 38 years ago...

I forgot about the Baby Cobra XS. Thx for reminding me!!!! I was going to order one a few months back after reading of them here. That might be nifty.

I found a baby Vice-grip awhile back also, but I carry it in my utility waist pack. Here it is with my EXECUTIVE.

The Knipex Baby Cobra XS in a leather slip might carry  quite well even in dress slacks. Thx again.

1. I don’t own any, but would likely be the Solo
2. Pioneer or Tinker
3. Super Tinker
4. Fieldmaster
5. CyberTool M or Troubleshooter

... I don't own anything past 5 layers though

I'll pick up a Swiss Champ at the next factory sale though.

Desperately searching for a 2015 Alox Classic!

1 layer:   Bantam Alox
2 layers:  Tinker Small (for now... it's a contested category!)
3 layers:   Super Tinker
4 layers:   Farmer X
5 layers:   Cybertool M (indoors) / Woodsman (outdoors)
6 layers:   Craftsman
8 layers:   SwissChamp

Choosing a favourite is like trying to choose a favourite colour... they're all great in certain applications and it's nice to change them up.

1 layer: 84mm Bantam Alox
2 layers: 58 mm Manager (Compact if going full size)
3 layers: 91mm Climber (but would give my eye teeth for an 84mm Small Climber or Salesman. Just got a Wenger Evowood 14 and love the toolset and size but find the wood handles a tad bulky)
4 layers: 91mm Huntsman
5 layers: 91mm Ranger
6 layers: 91mm Handyman
8 layers: 91mm Swiss Champ

We take what is offered...

Tougher than it seems at first blink, but here are my picks (from the ones I own):

1 layer: 108 mm Solo
2 layer: Executive (honorable mentions: DofE, Golfer)
3 layer: Climber (honorable mentions: Wenger Adventurer, Pioneer X)
4 layer: Explorer (honorable mention: Outrider)
5 layer: Hercules (honorable mention: Cybertool 34)
8 layers: Swisschamp

I see that this thread hasn't been added to in a few months, but it seems like an interesting idea so i'll add in my list.

1 layer: Alox solo
2 layer: Tinker small
3 layer: Farmer
4 layer: Fieldmaster
5 layer: Troubleshooter

Most of these are pretty easy to decide, but the small tinker definitely has lots of competition in the two layer spot. The pioneer, rambler, walker, and even the serrated spartan are all great two layers.

Favorites...hmm.

1 none
2 Alox Pioneer 93mm
3 Climber 91mm
4 Huntsman 91mm

I’m mostly on the 2 layers alternating between a Classic, Alox Cadet or a 91mm Spartan.
