I've been talking to the creator of the Goats tool since early 2020. Like you guys I was a little skeptical of this becoming a real product. However, I really hoped it would come to pass. A few months ago I got back in touch with him and was shocked to find out that he had taken major steps to making this thing a reality. Many of the company related logistical issues he has been working on addressing in preparation for this campaign. Like you guys I feel battered and abused by multitool companies taking advantage of our thirst for something new, all the while doing half ass'd iterations of what we really want.

I don't know how this is going to turn out but I do have hope. I will be doing an interview with the creator some time in the middle of the month, I have a lot of questions as I am sure all of you do as well. I have major issues with many of the implements but I take that with a grain of salt. Only the frame really matters at this point, and my discussions with him indicate there will be major changes where the inserts are concerned.

SOME SPOILED INFO SO FAR:

Kckstarter base pricing : under $100

MSRP will be in the $130-140 range

the actual shape of the implements will be OPEN SOURCE! meaning the company will provide all information necessary for makers to create implements for the tool.

As I find out more I can share I will.

Cheers.
I've been following on here (and FB) since last year, maybe earlier

Kickstarter price is about £72 but then I have to take into account shipping from the US and the mail system  :bnghd:

Also, a key decider for me will be how many tools, and of what type, can I choose for that price? With shipping from the US it could turn out VERY expensive to add a couple of blades etc.  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

Still a fan though  :tu:

They don't like it up 'em!

What I know so far is there will be three different setups to choose initially. Also, the geometry of the inserts will be open source. In other words he wants to encourage ppl to come up with their own inserts.

First 50 are $59 ?!

And then US$ 40 freight to Europe.. I'm not sure my curiosity and willingness to support takes me quite that far. It seems the freight company will receive most of the support.

I don't think the prototype is the final thing, prototypes rarely are, but time and money can help work out lots of initial kinks.

Let's make this absolutely clear — I have known from the very beginning what you changed. What did you fix? What was wrong with my originally intended comment that you felt it needed fixing?

I've added my pledge for a BO model yesterday. I am a bit sceptical about the 'half tangs' (as I wrote in that other thread a while ago) but I'm willing to try one out - it's been a while since anything new and potentially revolutionary (?) has appeared. If nothing else it has some novelty appeal.

@Jothra, I think the 'fix' was an attempt at a light hearted pun, not to be taken too seriously nor meant to offend.

Cheers!

Ah, ok, got it now. When people say FTFY, usually it's meant as a joke. When the first statement was correct and then you change it to some other meaning, and then say you fixed it, implying the first idea was wrong and now it's right.

In this case, it was a wordplay with goal and goat, due to the similarity. Hence the  8) 8) in the end, to show it was not really a correction on a "wrong" statement.

I'll be leaving to the Naughty Step now, sorry.

Yup, this. The last part is applicable to awl of my posts, not just the aforementioned one.

Thanks, DT!

I really enjoy that apparently GOAT hit its goal on it's creator's birthday. That's quite a gift!
