Old days challenge - interested?
on: April 22, 2021, 10:01:50 AM
Hi folks,

you know Carl aka jackknife.
I love reading his stories, here and on bladeforums.
And I love sort of minimalism challenges.

So the idea is: make it an old-timer / old-days challenge.

For a month carry the following 3 items:
- A peanut knife.
- 4way Screwdriver (eg the Vic Quattro from the swisscards)
- P38

Dont have all the items yet (hard to get a Case Peanut in CV here in germany at the moment), but I am hardly interested in this challenge as I rate this a nice try to overcome the nuttiness we are all tied to here in the MTO or BF or whatever.

Maybe someone else will add up to this challenge, would be fun if so.

If we get a new badge it would be fine, other than that people can request a minimalism badge if they like (I already have it, so I dont mind).

Thoughts?
Date suggestions? I would start later that year, August maybe? Too buisy the months before, cant make sure I can post everyday when on vacation).

Regards
Michael

I like challenges where we carry sets of stuff. The edc and Nessmuk challenges were tremendous fun.

I'm game except for August.  I'm in the daredevil challenge.  I'd love to participate.

I'd be really interested in this, but I'm in the Daredevil challenge as well. My Case Peanut, Craftsman "Lucky Clover" driver, and Shelby P38 are more likely to do their jobs and do them well. Part of the reason I'm doing the Daredevil challenge is that I know the Chinese-made Schrade Tough Tool is really poor quality, and I want to demonstrate that.  Even some off-brand stuff at similar prices works better (I'm really a big fan of the Workpro 18-in-1 and its Ozark Trail cousin). And almost all Rough Riders are cheaper than their Chinese Schrade counterparts, but much more knife for less money. Basically, I know that it can't do half of what I expect it to do.

I chose Sept. I'm doing the Daredevil Challenge in Aug. and the Delemont Challenge in Oct; so that means Sept. is a free month.

Might be interested. That is a big maybe. I have a Case Peanut but the Camillus Pony Jack is the same size as are some of the other knives from the older Cutlery Co's from the past. I rather carry a P51 than the P38. But since this is a small challenge I guess the 38 will have to do. Would the Proto keyring screwdriver qualify? I have some old ones from them.
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

Nothing is written in stone yet.
It was just an idea, I guess as long as your knife has the jack layout and the size roughly of a peanut it should be ok.
Same for the 4way. Those from Sears are hard to get here in europe. So I would take a Vic Quattro.

Just my thoughts.

huh this is an interesting one, I have a RR peanut but I don't have a Quattro (I think I have the original format Swisscard) or... what I think is those dinky survivalish can opneners?

They should both be pretty cheap to acquire though I imagine and like RP I do like challenges that give us a set or rotation of tools

Though based on another thread it feels weird this is inspired by cbl51 and a Christy isn't an option

Or a Victorinox Classic, LM Squirt, Opinel, Buck Stockman, Camillus Demo knife, Wenger Soldier, Vic. Florist knife, etc., etc.
