Recommendation please…..
« on: April 16, 2021, 01:20:26 AM »
Retiring soon and moving onto a sailboat in a few months to begin a circumnavigation.  I will have a full compliment of tools but am looking for a good all around multi tool.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.

My 2c would be to get something with dedicated drivers, not bits that could get dropped overboard.

I would recommend a Wave+. I would also recommend something like this First Mate Knife that has a marlin spike for knots and a shackle key.

 :iagree:

And maybe something that can handle exposure to (salt)water, like a Swisstool or Spirit.

Oh and perhaps one that you can have attached to your belt with a cord.

I wonder... are there any plier-based multitools with a marlinspike?

Don't some have a spike for C4? I wonder if that could be modified...

Yeah. A SwissTool Spirit X would be a great sailing tool.

I think a Rebar or Supertool would serve you well and should hold up fine to the sea environment as long as you keep it maintained .
No Life Club Posts: 4,736 Apparently it is possible to have too many tools;)

SOG made the West Marine Sailing Tool:

But these are pretty hard to find these days.

Thanks…based on my research and your recommendations, I am going with the Spirit X and Victorinox Skipper or Skipper Pro.

I've no real sailing experience, but I have a number of friends that do and have been out with them frequently.

One thing they have in common; the Skipper Pro! They favour the OHO option as often only one hand is free  :waving:

Maybe a Spirit MXBS to match it? B/O is well suited to the marine environment (Aussie Navy issue  :salute: )

They don't like it up 'em!
