Zapwizard Ratchet Driver handles owners club!
on: July 20, 2021, 03:13:53 AM
Figured I should start a new thread with these awesome pieces of edc kit :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I ordered these from Zapwizards website from Shapeways earlier this month and they are finally here :woohoo:

I ordered both the large handle and the micro driver 8)

The large handle has bit storage built in for 1/4 inch bits

It feels great in hand and has a good weight to it once you have your bits in it :salute:

The Micro driver is about roughly 1/3 the size of the larger counterpart and has storage built in for the Leatherman flat bits :tu:

The ratchet goes in and is held in place by a couple retention clips inside the handles :salute:

I am.going to carry the larger one for work and the micro when not at work :woohoo:

I will probably carry both tomorrow and see how they feel and try to use them a bit :tu:

Also these will fit the bit driver extension as well :salute:  you will just have a regular screwdriver vs a ratcheting one ;)

Forgot to mention that I ordered orange but these come in several different colors as well :tu: Plus you can get a grip to color match as well to help swap the ratchet direction :tu:

Cool. Good to see some of his work on the MTO pages. Thought about this driver handle, and probably could of used it when taking out the Suzuki's fan to clean the pine needles and the dead mouse causing a ruckus. Ended up having to replace the thermal resistor again, and there is not much room under the glove box. This handle might of done the trick if I had a bit to fit those weird sized Phillips screws.

Hoping ZapWizard makes an armored case for the Garage #5, or if he could answer me if the Garage #5 would fit in his Arc armored cases. Have the normal Garage #5 case but found the tool had slid out half way a couple of times. Sure as heck do not want to lose it!

I love the large handle but I definitely have carried the Micro handle with ratchet in my pocket much much more :salute:

I did carry the large one for a bit but I decided to give the Micro one that is pictured above a chance and it really hasn't left my work EDC in 2 years :o

The smaller one is so convenient to have and I rarely if ever pick up a dedicated screwdriver even at work :salute:

There is one thing what i have forgetted to ask. Does those handle work with regular extender too or is it gonna work correctly since regular version doesnt have stopper.

Should still work with the extender as the extender has a similar transition. Look at the handles in the video.

Yea it goes there but since regular version doesnt have stopper (ratchet part) does it be sturdy.

It does still work with the extender :salute: I used one with one of the handled before I got the second ratchet :tu: The Ratchet is just better though :D

I think it’s time to revisit the ratchet adapter thread.  Has anyone else got one aside from Poncho?  I’d like to know how they hold up to use. I’m considering ordering one from Zap’s new site. My intended use is for low-med torque applications using the LM and 711L mini ratchet. I think the primary concern is failure at the handle where the ratchet inserts.

Whats the long term verdict here on real world use?

I have used both of mine quite a bit over the last few years and torqued them quite a bit 8) they seem to be holding up very well (both the Ratchet Driver and the Zapwizard handles) :salute: :woohoo:

I also happen to have the new grey version coming from  Zap as we speak :salute:

The only issue I have had, period, is that the orange has faded a bit in my Micro handled version :D

You can see that they smaller one has faded (from almost daily pocket carry for this whole time :o :ahhh )

They still hold in really well and the Ratchet Driver itself is almost bomb proof apparently  8) :like:

I can never figure out why they stay out of stock so much  they need to produce these by the truck load and keep them in stock :salute:

Cheers, Poncho. Thanks for your thoughts

I did note they are cheaper right now, which is why I’m considering it again.  I think we all know how this will turn out and I’ll just buy all 3 sizes.

Do you use the ratchet in your Leatherman or keep it these handles primarily setup? I’ve got 2 ratchets and am thinking of one as a standalone to keep with my Spirit rather than the larger ratcheting driver I currently use. The other ratchet I use with my Wave and I can’t imagine also carrying the handle.

For me, I use it primarily as a stand alone screwdriver but usually, always, with the option of being able to use it in a MT for extra torque :tu:

I have used it in a MT but it is very rare that I have to use it this way
