Brass bale for SAK

I’ve been experimenting quite a bit with the best way to form a bale from brass. Using round stock I was getting brittleness and breakages flattening the ends enough (probably going to quickly) but in the end it seems the best way (that I have found) is to cut a blank out of flat stock - I used 3mm - with slightly wider round ends that you can drill the holes into and then just round it all over! Does the job nicely and keeps the stress to a minimum. :0)

Can you show a pic of the flat stock you used please, or the dimensions?

Thank you. Pic below. The stock is just over 2mm thick and I made the flat about 5cm long with 5mm round ends to drill the 3mm holes in. The middle bit is 3mm wide or there abouts. Bent it gently around 12mm round bar for 2 layer alox SAK.

Well, this is a solution to the problem you were having with the 3mm roundstock!

I’ve considered going a similar route with sheet material, but haven’t felt it would save time or effort just yet.

Looking forward to the installation.

Might be too late, but I was told to use squares of cut-up bicycle inner tube (with a hole for the pin) to protect the scales. :salute:

Yeah got there in the end. This option I found you can get better results with less patience ana actual skill which suits me perfectly  :rofl:

Build is coming along quite nicely just need to finish the peening of the bale pins but I’ve got a slightly smaller hammer on the way for that. Just needs a couple of years in the pocket to get it looking as cools as the one that inspired it @magentus  :tu:
