I'm doing a sort of keto diet for May, but if we're eating our MREs in June, I should be ok.
Can we just vacuum-seal a pizza? :pok:

I'll give the rules and stuff another read later, but what the heck. Let's do this. Bon Appétit!

You might look at June 05, "Chow Day", as being a 'cheat day', or....you could pioneer a keto-MRE....heheheh. Nuts, Jerky, sugar-free beverage base, powdered eggs.....

Pistachios:
400g
10040kJ :salute:
Expiry Date: About a year
Fits in a pocket.

Did I win?

Ok, I won't include any pistachios... Which makes my diner name of "Pistachio King" rather pointless...
Also, wow! That's a ton of calories!  :ahhh I'd better limit my pistachio intake... It's why I'm starting a keto diet now.

"Lunch break is no picnic in Antarctica, during a 56-day storm. Wind-blown snow pelted Will Steger and his 1989-1990 International Trans-Antarctica Expedition, the first to cross the continent — 3,741 miles — by dogsled. Courtesy of Will Steger"

In the opening post, I mentioned that polar explorers have a huge calorie requirement. In his ill-fated attempt to get to the South Pole (and back), Captain Robert F. Scott and his team were seriously under-eating. This lack of food was likely a contributing factor to team members developing frostbite and succumbing to the cold, as well as not having the energy to complete the final 11 miles of their journey.

A snap of the Scott team's 'MRE':

"The food ration in the picture supplied around 4600 calories per day. Scott and his men were effectively on a starvation diet that didn't fulfill their needs leading to a loss of weight and condition which contributed to their suffering and loss."

Quote

The staple food of Scott's five-man party was pemmican, a mixture of dried beef and fat, to which water was added. Researchers have calculated that the team's rations, which also included pony meat and lots of biscuits, were 2,000 to 3,000 calories short of the daily intake necessary to keep up with the extreme physical demands.

Love pistachios! And they are very healthy (I'm told). Maybe it's the exercise of opening them up...... I'm definitely adding Pistachios to my ration!

I can't come up with a better diner name. I was thinking "Dances with cloves" but what does that even mean?
So, I'll remain the Pistachio King, and try to acquire a small baggie of pistachios, maybe 80-100g, to make it a reasonable addition to my MRE.

Oh, and I will be including an Australian delicacy in my MRE. An item I have seen in Ozzie MRE's (or rations...or what ever they call their pre-packaged chow...)

I will henceforth be known as the "Can Opener Connoisseur" :tu:
Which means I must buy and test the P38 and P51 can openers. It might allow me a place in the Old School Challenge as well.

I used to work with an old guy years ago when you were talking to him he would quite often rake around in his trouser pockets and pull out a pork pie or a boiled egg, pack of crisps or something then start munching away on it, he really was a walking mre dispenser  :D

Ok so it has to sit on a shelf for 1 week with no refrigeration, this will take some thought but i'm sure it's doable, im in
