Not fooling around--starting a fire the easy way
on: May 05, 2021, 12:49:35 AM
Yesterday was a rainy day, and it was finally wet enough to safely burn the scrap wood pile from the sawmill. But how do you get a fire started when it's really wet?

Well there are several ways, but after trying different things in the past, I don't mess around like that anymore, when I can help it.

I got a small amount of dry tinder (a pizza box was the largest component), but as it turned out, that really wasn't necessary.

I used a propane torch....the type with the extended blow tube, to keep your hands and face away from the fire. Within a very short amount of time, the pile was blazing.

I realize this is not a great option for hikers, campers, and bug-out survival, but for planned fire starting, highly convenient.  :D

That kinda reminds me of when I was a child.  Our property was mostly trees with just enough cleared space for a trailer and driveway.  A few times during the summers, we would have some friends or family come over to help cut down and clear a couple trees at a time.  We would have a cookout and bonfire (to burn the trees) at the end.

Well the problem is, I was going to request a badge, but I forgot that I was supposed to post a picture of a multi-tool in it. Hmmm.

The no nonsense must burn solution for " for hikers, campers, and bug-out survival" using the original posters method.

Full they run for ten-fifteen minutes. Pair with lighter.

Usually used for soldering and hobby brazing.

It's uncanny as I had been thinking about if they made an even  more compact version for emergency wet wood fire starting for fire iliterate. That was a little more reliable then jet lighters

Too complicated. I have a simpler method.

The torch that Jim used also works great on ant hills.

My preferred method of fire starting is to use these:
