SOG Paratool - a question.
on: January 19, 2009, 04:18:10 PM
I just received a NIB Paratool that I bought from ebay on Saturday morning (impressive postage!), and everything is good, but included in with the package were:

- a Wrench Kit &

- a Serrated Line Cutter.

The question is, are these things normally included with the Paratool, or has this seller given me a really good deal? The literature in the box lists them as "optional Extras", which implies I got some freebies!
I used to come here a lot.

Yah, you definitely got some bonus items there. That stuff doesn't come standard with the Paratool.

Serrated line cutter $7.95

Wrenches $9.95

What I got is exactly the same as in your pics Bob, the thing that made me wonder was that they were in small zip-loc bags, but the paperwork with them looked like they had been run off a personal printer, completely unlike the pro quality blurb relating to the tool! The components themselves are marke "SOG PARATOOL" though, so I think they are genuine, but at that price, who cares :D

Awesome freebies. I don't think the paratool wrenches are even for sale anymore.  SOG doesn't list them on their website.

Yes, I just checked SOG's site, no listing.  Where could I get one?  I would love a 1/2" on my powerlock.

I had a nice lady include a leather pouch for an old Champ I won recently, it was used but still perfectly serviceable.  :tu:

On the flip side, I'm still waiting on a LM and a SAK I bought before Christmas.  I do actually believe the guy posted them but I think he's going to be awkward about refunding :(

Click on the text in my Post #3 above. The link takes you straight to the Knifecenter store, which still shows both items in stock. :)

Nice snag, and It is weird that an ebay seller gives something away. But nice. You putting the line cutter on or not?

Actually, I've done well on ebay this last week.

In addition to the above, I got a free Byrd knife, and a £5 refund on a Squirt S4, that only cost £10 to start with (it was supposed to be blue, but was actually red).

I used to come here a lot.

Dave, which Byrd knife did you get?  I just received my Byrd Raven today... absolutely love it.  :tu:

Well, I ordered a Byrd Meadowlark, with part serrated blade and SS handles, but got a "Meadowlark Rescue" in error. When I contacted the ebay seller, he was very apologetic and sent me the one I'd ordered too, so I got both for the price of one!

I'm really very impressed with both of the knives, given how much they sell for. I'm not really a big user of knives, but I find that I'm using these for all sorts of things.

They have a really solid reassuring snap as they lock open, especially the SS one.

Yeah - I'm a believer.

Here's a hastily taken snap:

Those are nice knives, Dave.  Here's a pic of mine.  It's the plain-edge Raven with G10 handles:

I believe the wrenches are standardized at 1/4" ... Every time I order from SOG I ask for a set of wrenches and they are sent free of charge.
Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !

I thought I'd resurrect this thread, as I've had this Paratool for nearly a month now, and I'm really liking it.

The components inside aren't really on a par with the PST (although I do quite like the serrated blade), and it's not as compact as the PST either. I also find that closing it can be a pit of pain as you have to line up he handles quite accurately before you flip the plier head back in. When it's cosed, the protruding lanyard ring makes it even less compact and I've had it dig into me once already.

Despite all of the above though, it makes a change to the usual opening mechanism, and it's such a good looking thing, I find it hard to be too critical, and I do find I'm using it a bit.

Looking forward to my PPP arriving so I can compare the two.

I used to come here a lot.

Thanks!

The Paratool has been in production for a long time. Over the years they have stocked it with an ever-changing selection of blades and tools. And the quantity of blades has changed. Early Paratools had 5 implements in a handle. Some newer ones only have 3 implements in a handle, along with a plastic spacer. :(

I see yours has 4 per handle. Must be it is a few years old.

It is a nice looking tool isn't it Dave,  it's one of my favorites for edc due to it size and compliment of tools.
Have you had a chance to try out the serrated line cutter yet?.  I had it on my paratool for a while but have since removed it because I didn't find it to be very sharp.

Looking at the pics reminded me why I bought a Paratool and not a PST. *sigh* my first love
