Ideas and Plans for 30 Day Challenges in 2022
on: May 22, 2021, 03:59:10 PM
So many challenges, so few months in a year.  ::)
I could not fit everything I wanted to do in 2021, so let's get some placeholders and "maybe's" in, shall we? :D
I've had some ideas already. If you have any suggestions, shoot.

Dedicated Tools

Micra
I loved the Micra ever since I got it. It really is a great keychain multi-tool. No dedicated badge for it yet, and we've barely seen it in challenges so far. This has to change.

MiniTool
Same reasons. :D

Gerber MP
I like my MP400, so I intend to do this at some point anyway.

108mm Challenge
I don't think we've done this before. Not that many models compared to other ranges, but still plenty to choose from.

Tinker Tinker Little Star
A month of Tinkers. :salute:

Themed Challenges

EDC Pouch
I love my Maxpedition Micro. I often binge-watch edc pouch videos for ideas. We've done the EDC Challenge, the Batman Challenge, we have a keychain challenge. Why not limit our edc to a pouch for a month?

Dedicated Tools Challenge
Single-purpose tools only. Let's see those mini ratchets and tiny Knipex pliers. Folding knives, folding saws, maybe even a hatchet?

Dave Canterbury Challenge
Carry the 10 C's for a month and make the best of it.

Running with scissors! :ahhh
All scissors welcome. No running.

MacGyver Challenge
Paperclip, SAK, duct tape, mullet. That's a whole toolbox right there.

Especially the  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh !!!MINI!!! :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh Challenge :o

With it's limited toolset I always pair with a SAK but a month of it alone would be a challenge :ahhh Would be fun to try it though :salute:

The Poker Face and Nessmuk challenges were tremendous fun.  :salute:
I enjoy challenges with sets of tools, so I tried to come up with some.

Hi
Am not into challenges, but may I put my two cents.
If there are more ideas than months, why dont you make the challenge by week numbers. I bet there will be more participants.  :dunno:

Is it already that time of year?

- I'd be very interested in a Micra challenge - or a Keyfob-sized MT challenge in general (the more the merrier).  :multi:

- MacGuyver Challenge would be a lot of fun.

- I'll also suggest the "SAK got your Six" challenge again - a two tool challenge where you can carry any multitool you want plus a SAK of your choosing,  It would be an easy challenge for anyone to participate in since your primary MT can be anything that best suits you.  SAKs are always a great backup, whether for a full-sized MT... or for literally nothing when you've only got the shirt on your back and the SAK in your pocket.

How about a Combo Edge Challenge?   A lot of excellent tools like the Leatherman PST-2, Skeletool, Signal, Victorinox One Handed Trekker, Solider 2008, and the Gerber MP-400 have a combo edge blade.  While very few knife enthusiasts like a combo edge, many MT users and casual EDC knife users get the job done without a fuss.  Can you get by for 30 days with one of these tools?   :pok:

I'm looking to do a Combo Edge Challenge in February/Mar 2-2022 (see what I did there? )

Any knife or multitool with a partially serrated blade would qualify for this 30DC

In case we don't get enough participants to make a new badge, several tools which would qualify already have badges
Signal,
Swisstool Spirit (with butter blade),
Leatherman MUT,
Spyderco,
SOG Powerlock
Victorinox Soldier or 111mm
Skeletool
Gerber MP 400
or even the Discontinued MT or Off Brand MT badges

In addition, there are some new and interesting tools that folks may have gotten that would qualify.... like the Leatherman K2.... or some oldies and goodies, like a Gerber Paraframe 2, which is a favorite among hikers.

If it's going to be a small group, instead of starting a new thread (if within regulations) I'll host it on this page https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,85419.0.html

What about a "100 day One MT Challenge"?   Choose any one tool that would get you through every potential scenario for nearly a third of the year... and put it to the test.

Easy. For me it would be the O/G Surge

However, given that I wouldn't be able to carry whilst "off duty" (mostly) and I can't take anything else with me "on duty" (except the MP600) this would end up a 33 day challenge for me (my roster roughly equates to 2/3 on duty - 1/3 off duty

I think I'd have to pass as I couldn't do it justice  :dunno:
They don't like it up 'em!

comis and I were discussing the possibility of a monster challenge, the Everest of challenges......

One SAK, one pliers-based multi, and one tool of your choice for one year. No replacements. No rotating. Three and only three for 365 days.

Whatcha think?

Hmmm... I actually like the idea... but would want to do that in 2023... get the other challenges that I want to do out of my system.  The Everest Challenge - no turning back - would need to run on its own, I think....

But I like the idea - and I already know 2 of the tools I'd use.     Unless the 58mm Challenge we are on now changes my mind ..

I saw a badge for a Modified SAK Challenge, but a quick forum search seemed to show one last in 2019.

How about one of those? Assuming it means that you use a custom-built SAK for 30 days.

I like the idea of "I'm going to build (or have built for me) my dream SAK". Now put it to the test for 30 days and see if it lives up to the dream.
SAKs:
58mm: Bijou (3), Classic SD (7), Mini Champ Plus (mod), Alox Classic SD, Rambler (3), Companion
65mm: Wenger Esquire
74mm: Executive
85mm: Evolution S557, Traveler,
91mm: Champion "c", Swiss Champ (4), Explorer (3), Deluxe Tinker, Huntsman, Serrated Spartan/Weekender, Explorer Plus, Deluxe Explorer Plus (mod), Outdoorsman Plus, Champion "a", Champion Plus, Timekeeper Alarm, Golfer
93mm: Pioneer Alox
