Pocket clip question
on: May 29, 2021, 09:43:09 AM
I recently purchased a Leatherman Bond and a pocket clip.  The clip was ordered separately and hasn’t arrived yet.  I noticed that Leatherman lists a pocket clip for the Leatherman Free K series and a second listing for the Free P & T series/Bond.  I ordered the one listed for the K series without realizing there is a separate listing for the P,K, and Bond.  Looking at the listing again, it seems they may actually be the same clip.  Can anyone tell me if it is the same clip for these models or if there is a difference between the Free K and P-T/Bond series pocket clip?  Thanks for any help/clarification.

Which leatherman site you are using ? I guess some local like for example .de or .co.uk. On the .com the listing is one and it says:
 WORKS WITH
FREE™ K2
FREE™ K2X
FREE™ K4
FREE™ K4X
FREE™ P2
FREE™ P4
FREE™ T2
FREE™ T4
Bond®

Here is the site info I was looking at...eBay is also listing them as two distinct models.  The Leatherman link below is less clear.  It has all the compatible models listed together as you e posted above, but two separate tabs to choose from.  Maybe I’m reading more into it than I should?

I could be wrong here but I vaguely recall there being two different screw lengths...
Probably want the shorter ones so they don't interfere with the inner tools.
Hopefully someone who knows what they are on about can confirm.

I wrote that the screws holding the clip on my T4 can interfere when clipping the tool onto thick material, e.g., my jeans pocket.  The pocket clip furnished with my T4 knife multitool is different than the pocket clips for the P2 and P4 pliers multitools.  The P2 and P4 clips have an extra bend and more space between the clip and the screw heads.

I swapped the pocket clips.  The clip with he bend and more clearance fits on my jeans pocket better than the original.

Both style clips are shown below.  The original T4 clip is shown on top..

The K series screws that come with the pocketclip are longer and will breach the other side of the handle on a P series tool or Bond, interfering with the outermost tool on that side. I think the clip is also a little different as mentioned above. Both clips should fit...but the hardware will have some issues.

Well this isn't really well thought from their side - the listing is one and states that the clip is compatible with all the free series and bond. Which made me think there is only one type of clip. So a friend of mine got the Bond the minute it was delivered from our local representative but the clips will be available here end of September. And importing one isn't really an option since the postage will be 2 or 3 times the value of the clip. So we thought, fooled by the listing above, that the clip from his t4 should work great. It did mount on it's place but it has a gap from one side and just looks off. We were deeply disappointed by Leatherman - how could they release something like this. Now things make more sense but I'm still not happy with them because they created that illusion in the first place and it's still there.
To summarize - the clip with the straight back is for the knives, the curved back is for the pliers. On the website they only seem to sell curved back clips so it seems you're good.

On the Leatherman Canada web portal, they only have K series clips for sale. the P and Bond clips are out of order. I almost bought the K series myself. On their website, the not in stock item is ghosted, leading me to think that the K series was the right one. It was only after reading what others were experiencing in here, that I went back and realized the right clip was out of stock. I can definitely understand the confusion.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback.  My clip is due to arrive today.  Looks like I’ll be having to do an exchange.  Take care, all.

Update...I received the clip in the mail today.  It is for the K series, and is the curved version (the one pictured at bottom in pic above).  The clip itself would work fine, but as Chako and some others have noted here in this thread, the problem is that the screws are too long.  They protrude into the inner workings and keep the awl from being able to close on the Bond.  Thanks again for all of the feedback.  I appreciate it
