I always wanted a heavier pliers but can't stand the bulk nor weight that comes with the Surge or ST300.. So now I have very compact heavy duty pliers with the basic tools. No bells nor whistles here.
Body conjured up from frame of a Surge and Core for "scales". There are some heavy modifications to the frames to fit the handles together but it was well worth it. The surge frames now sits flush in the place of the Core's original Zytel. I think this would give twice the strength to the handle and give the handle a little more balanced weight so it doesn't go top heavy. The Compact is very maneuverable due to even weight distribution and incredibly ergonomic handle size. The rolled edge of the Core's handle provides zero hotspots and allows me to out heavy pressure and not feel the edge digging into my palm.
Weighing in at 250g and 13mm thick. Here is the Compact Leatherman HD.
Doesn't look much for those not familiar with the Core.
Handle splay was reduced slightly.
The tools are selected to be what I think are unique and more useful from the HD range. I originally had the bit adapter on it but decided against that as I seldom use the bits....
Here's the highlight of this mod. 13mm thickness. A PST measures at 12.1mm.
Compared to the OG Core
