Long day today.  While out I picked up this mix.  I've wanted to try it out and figured now was the right time.  We get a lot of bees in our avocado tree as well as our neighbors.  Each season they are busy pollinating so I wanted to provide other sources for them and butterflies whatever else was interested.

Day 26.

Decisions, decisions.  Started out the morning with yesterday's Stockman but felt the call to carry my recently purchased penknife.

Day 25:

The Trapper helped make a "Survival Lighter" today. Cut paracord, and clipped tape. Not terribly exciting stuff, but it served nicely.

(Image removed from quote.)

The tape serves as fire starting material. Chapstick can be rubbed on flammable material as a "tinder extender" as well as being used to keep lips and finger tips from cracking. Chapstick can also be used to protect carbon steel blades from rusting.  Probably has dozens of extra uses. The Chapstick cap conceals a bit of vaseline impregnated cotton ball, too.

The safety guard on the lighter was removed. A wire tie was used to lock the gas release button in the 'closed' position so it doesn't accidentally become depleted. An extra bit of tape secures the  ends of the wire tie. The inner strands of the paracord were removed to make the cord more flexible.....but those inner strands make decent fire starter, too. Might should have left them in, but the cord is a bit more flexible this way.

The idea here is that 1) you always have both your Chapstick and BIC together, with you, and 2) tying them together makes it harder for one or both to fall out off a pocket. I tie them together with a double strand of paracord because that lets me clip them onto my pocket dangler or tie them to their own lanyard. I'm a big believer in keeping my stuff tied to my person.   :tu:

It'd be nice if Gorilla made brigter colored 1" tape. Just sayin'.....
Lovely survival lighter mods!  I too used garden ties to prevent the gas leak from lighter. :tu:

Very gentlemanly looking knife. :like:

Btw, did you watch any Olympics fencing?  I was particularly impressed by Aron Szilagyi's performance the other day, he won Olympics Gold for the third time and was so composed even after scoring the final point, the whole match was quite memorable.

 ;)

I've stuck the Trapper in a nylon Buck 110 sheath for the moment. I may try to get a leather one made up, but it may not be finished by the end of the challenge. (Been a while since I made a friction sheath....hope I can figure it out!)
