Poncho is correct. No SAK's allowed in this challenge.

I believe I will carry Opinels a bit more that month as well  I will mix them in with some others I have :salute:

Also I believe except for Victorinox Pioneers or Soldiers and Wenger SI models, SAK really aren't allowed as we have so many other challenges that those do have   Of course Nix has final call but I think that is something that we have established over the years

In prior challenges, namely the 2016 one, no SAKs were allowed at all, not even Soldier/Soldat/Pioneer models.  It could certainly be argued that, prior to the 1961 models, they were built in a traditional fashion, but they were ruled out of the challenge due to the fact that they're in other challenges, as you mention.

EDIT: I see Steve beat me to it.  ;)

Since it has never been brought up and we have several members with these now... The Christy knife is one I have been carrying lately and has been in production since 1936 (relatively unchanged  I might add ;) ) will it be allowed in this challenge

I would say yes  but will leave final call up to Nix and some of you other trad aficionados  :D

I have to recuse myself and defer to those who are the standard bearers for the Traditional category. I'm not expert enough to make that call.  :D

I'd agree that given its longevity and unchanging nature the Christy could be a traditional. It is not what I picture when I think of a "traditional", but in thinking about it, I'd say "heck, yeah."

So I'll second the motion to permit the Christy, but, again, I defer to wiser heads.   :tu:

I have plenty of trads to pick from if this doesn't get voted in and will likely do as I always do and carry many different ones

Having been carrying, using and researching the Christy knife the last couple of months. This is a question I've pondered many times as to whether the Christy qualifies as a traditional knife or not. Most traditional knives are considered as slip joint or as the English called them spring knives which I think is a better term. There were other type knives in use during this time frame also. Since I seldom like to take the long way around the barn when you can walk straight thru it. So when all things are considered I think the Christy does qualify as a traditional knife. The purist among us will surely squall but so be it. Let'um squall. Since this Challenge is to honor Dean I might suggest along with Steve to carry regular traditional knives as much as possible when you can along with your Christy if you choose to use the Christy.   :tu:      :D
