I'd say the Colt is ok and it looks really nice too, the others not that traditional as far as I am concerned. Let's see what the others think.
Yes, Vic/Wenger are traditional, but we already have a ton of challenges for SAKs, so they can sit this one out.

I think you will be fine with 5 of those Lefty, there was also a no pocket clip, no thumb stud / thumb hole rule and yep no Vics or Wengers  :tu:

 The Canoe and one next to it, the brass and wood folding hunter and the Barlow and Colt are the ones i would say would be fine but yep we will wait and see what others think  :tu:

Even if we have a challenge or 2 for the Bucks I think they would be able to be in this challenge :think:

I would think the top 5, the Colt and the Barlow should be fine but then again I am not the one making the rules here :whistle: :D

The line does get blurred a bit when determining a trad these days because so many of the traditional designs were so good that they have made it into new modern designs as well :salute:

I was rooting through some knives when I came across this Northfield Un-X-Ld Trapper. I haven't really given this knife much pocket time. While my original intent was to use the Opinel for the challenge, I think I'll give this hefty Northfield a try-out in this challenge.
( If successful, I'll be able to get a GEC badge, too! ).


Opinel No. 9, Northfield Trapper, Case Sodbuster


The Northfield is a real beast, especially when compared to the light and nimble Opinel. And it needs a better edge. This should be an interesting challenge!  :tu:

I prefer to use just one knife per challenge, so the Northfield will be my only knife for the challenge. I like to focus on one knife and see how it does for a month. I put the Soddie and Opi in the picture for size comparison. But I'll be interested to see how the Trapper carries, works, and keeps an edge. ( After I get the edge tuned up a bit. )  :tu:

It's going to be tough for me to keep up with this challenge, because I will camping or on the road for most of July.  However, I'm going to give it a try.  I'm looking forward to paying homage to Dean and putting this wood-scaled 301 through its paces.  And if I miss a day or two here or there, I won't lose any sleep over the badge.  These challenges are really about the journey, not the destination.

I have a 23 and was surprised when holding it by how much of a beast it is. 

I was also considering carrying only my GECs during this challenge to get the GEC badge, but I’m not sure.
