I'm quite attached to my resurrected Explorer and don't know if I can give it up for 60 days.

I feel ya. I love my resurrected Explorer, too.

Now, sign up and put that Swiss Champ through its paces.   :viking:

Nice and crazy idea for a challenge.
My work edc is a Ranger...
Not so far from the SC... (A SAK of diference )
And I have one SwissChamp!
(What coincidence!).
That's a perfect excuse to carry my almost non used SC

Indeed. It was a bit rough, but some TLC and fresh scales brought it back to life.  :tu:

I’ll see if something interesting pops up on eBay

I'd need to do that also.

This challenge intrigues me. I always have a SwissChamp in my bag, and I don’t think it would be onerous to have it in-pocket for a couple of months. I shall ponder this…

Too many challenges.   :(

I'm going to pass on the Go BIG Challenge and participate in the Daredevil Challenge instead. I already know the Swiss Champ is a great and practical SAK.   :tu:

I want to see if I can like my Delemont Evolution S557. I was intrigued with the slip-joint pliers and the wrench when I read about them, so picked one up. Haven't been impressed so far. The pliers are very fiddly compared with the standard Victorinox pliers. The wrench being in the center of a 5-layer SAK limits its ability to hold things that are nearly flush. Both the wrench and the inline Phillips are thumbnail-breaking tight to open. I've had mixed luck with the serrated scissors.

I like the nail file though.   :)

The Daredevil Challenge will give it a chance to redeem itself.

But I'll be following along with the Go BIG Challenge. Always interested in hearing new uses!

What about the days when something more substantial is needed? Swiss Champ XAVT or similar might be needed for popping down to the shop and open a large letter etc. So can I change between SC's?

I think switching between Swiss Champs is allowed. Seems to be the norm for most model-specific challenges.   :dunno:

60 Days? Wow.

I agree with Old Lefty that you should be able to swap out - but not for anything with fewer layers. I have in mind my Wenger EvoGrip 54 which is bit of a shelf queen.

But I don't make the rules ...

FB -- you bring up an interesting point.......

I confess to being a bit myopic when setting up the challenge. I was focused on the Vic Swiss Champ--which was the multitool you and Barry were nattering on about in another thread.

However, I like your idea of opening the "Go Big" concept to other tools.

So, let's say that for this challenge we'll include SAKs with 8 or more layers. For 60 days. So a Wenger Tool Chest would easily qualify.

I've already given in to Lefty's request for tool switching during the challenge ( a practice I typically frown upon ), so we might as well open the challenge up to include Wenger equivalents.  :tu:

It will be a good endurance challenge with the SC.
Usually I carry the Compact/Trail Guide duo. In my work bag I carry the Ranger.
The Ranger is the biggest SAK that I allowed myself to carry in my pocket. (A Cybertool M is always sitting in my desk at home.

Some years ago I bought a SwissChamp. Never carried It on the pocket. A fact that amuses me. How a so amazing SAK is relegated to a shelf queen status by me?

I will try to carry the SC in and off work.
(I'm not the smallest guy in the ranks, and never bothered with the weight of my work gear... Clone Trooper life...)

:twak:   Please, don't make me borrow magentus' motivation shovel.... It is a good thing you are joining in here!

:2tu:  I sometimes use a simple pocket dangler with the Swiss Champ.

The loop gets place around my belt. It is short enough that the Swiss Champ hangs securely in the pocket from the belt. It doesn't pull on my pants pocket. I've found this to be a very comfortable and secure way to carry larger pocket knives, even a 130mm Ranger does well like this.
