An Alox Rambler would be great as a choice, but I don't think I would carry one due to the lack of T&T.  My nylon (Stayglow) scales still look great after 15 years of banging around on my keychain.  I think it would be nice if they would come in all the cellidor colors of the rainbow like the Classic as well.

I’m becoming quite conflicted about whether to continue on my quest to make an Alox Rambler.

On the one hand, they look great…
Though, I recently took off some titanium scales to revert back to Celidor and found myself appreciating the toothpick and tweezers once again. :tu:

Plus, the Celidor scales seem to be quite grippy, with their tactile design. Especially compared to the super slick titanium!  :ahhh

Can't deal without my Rambler. Replaced my LM Style CS and no regrets! Use it constantly. I have Ebony scales on mine.

I’m another Manager fan. Started with a Midnite (the perfect all purpose edc) slimmed down to the Manager, bought a Rambler and added a pen scale to it. Got to have the pen.

:ahhh I get the feeling I’m being badgered into getting a new SAK, by order of the management (pun intended). :pok:

I must resist! If only I could send a note to get help?

Has anybody got a pen?

How about pairing an Alox Rambler with a leatherman style PS? Great looks, mini pliers, tweezers. Oh, and scissors and 2d Phillips/flat, but you got the Rambler.

Don't generally like the pens.
In the past, when I got another MiniChamp, I'd take the pen scales off and replace them with different scales.  Not too long ago I took one of my Ramblers and added the pen scales

That's another possibility, but I'd rather not have to carry another tool to get tweezer functionality when I don't have to. The only functional advantage an Alox Rambler has over a nylon or celidor-scaled one is that it's slimmer.  My tool purchases have always been driven by functionality over form.

If I have a Rambler with T&T, I don't have to think about including T&T on a larger SAK or any other tool because I carry a Rambler 100% of the time unless I'm naked.

Nice! 8)
They almost seem too good to be left as backups…
Though I’m sure they get a few admiring glances, even just left on the side. :dd:

I especially like the translucent scales as they make it look like candy…

I like them, but they're supposed to be Onyx, not "root beer"!  I don't think the look of the translucent scales would hold up on a keyring very well compared to celidor or nylon.

That’s weird!
I really did think they were the “root beer” color, not onyx.
Still  :like: ‘em though.

I was also under the impression, like yourself, that the translucent scales weren’t as robust as the Celidor. Though I don’t know where I heard that?  :dunno:

I wouldn't say they've been less durable in my use.  I would just say that they don't look as good after long-term use.  Celidor just loses its shine and becomes more "matte" in appearance.  The translucent scales become more matte and, as a result, become more opaque and lose their charm, but to me that isn't a big deal.

I carried the Leatherman Style PS along with the Midnite Manager for awhile. Never got to make any significant use of it, so I stopped carrying it. Still, I think it's a great combo. Extra scissors, pliers, tweezers. I just hate that the scissors spring breaks very easily, even without using them.

That’s good to know. :tu:

I think I’ll be keeping the black Celidor scales on my Rambler for the time being then.
As I think they look pretty classy and they don’t seem to show the scratches much.

Black is just about my favorite color of celidor.  It's probably a tie between cobalt blue and black.  Blue looks a little better worn than black.

I think the Rambler could possibly be the best SAK of any size.  So much usefulness in one package.

The Rambler is very convenient, it is the SAK that I used most often in its Midnite Manager version. Since then it is replaced to protect it by a Mini Champ Alox. 8)

I really like the Midnite Manager as it has all the main EDC bases covered: knife, flashlight, and pen, in such a tiny package. :tu:
I'm actively trying not to buy one as we speak now...  :-[

And anything Alox, with all those interesting tools, is a great choice too!  :like:

Love a Rambler!  I've had my one and only Rambler for many years now.  I can take or leave LEDs and pens myself, but each to their own.

With regards to LEDs and pens – there is something very satisfying about a piece of kit that doesn’t need recharging, or refilling every so often. It just keeps on keeping on!

P.S. That Rambler looks gorgeous in white! 8) Are those the original scales?
I’m just interested to know if they stay fairly white, long term?

Yes, original as far as I remember.  They do take a bit of staining knocking around on my keyring and even after a good rub I'm not certain they're quite as white as they once were.  Not so bad as to say they don't still look good though, even in person.
