Your Rambler looks like it's exercising.

Oooh, didn’t know there was a rambler club.

Here’s the alox rambler I made from a mini champ and classic SD many years ago. The sharp-eyed may notice I swapped the blade and file locations. I use the file more and it’s handy having it pivot away from the key ring.

I can’t believe I’ve never posted anything in this thread. I love my Rambler!

It’s the best 58mm IMHO. It’s got the essential tools and nothing extra. It’s great for kids toys and electronics. I’ve done full laptop tear downs and rebuilds with just a Rambler!

I carry mine every day - I’ll rotate between several different 91mm and 84mm SAKs from day to day, but the Rambler is a constant. And it happens pretty frequently that I use the Rambler more than whatever larger SAK I’m carrying that day.

My only issue with the 58mm SAKs is that I find that the blade is so small and thin that it’s harder to sharpen than the larger models. It’s just too easy to get the angle wrong if I’m freehand sharpening a 58mm. I can freehand a 91mm or 84mm blade to “working sharpness” no problem. But I need an aid of some kind for the little SAKs.

I love this mod.  I agree with about the file I use it way more then the knife.  Great job!   :like:

Nice mod! I did not know this club existed, but I love my Rambler too. Compliments other SAK or other makers nicely. I like it better than the other small 58mm versions like Classic.

I used my Rambler a lot today on a full tear down and rebuild of one my son’s toys.

The combo tool phillips did some screws, the file did a little prying, the tweezers grabbed some string, the scissors trimmed a bit, and the blade widened a hole in some plastic. As expected, it performed admirably!

Unfortunately, I also noticed that I’ve chipped one of the scales at some point. No effect on function, of course, but annoying and a bit of an eyesore.

I know I can buy new scales but between the cost and shipping it’s about half the cost of buying a new Rambler!

That's a shame but it does give you the opportunity to change the colour if you want.  Plus new scales make every SAK feel brand new for a while. :D

Good to see a Rambler thread! It's definitely a contender for best SAK.

Here are mine. The stayglow is the one that's been with me the longest and has taken the most beating...so it just recently got fresh scales from a donor Classic.

I usually pair a Rambler with a Pioneer - it makes for a great team, like Batman and Robin.

My Rambler.  Makes a good companion to a penknife for a very light carry.

Count me in as a Ramblin' man. I would have loved if they made a 74mm version. I don't know that I'd need anything else.

I seem to remember you've been carrying the Minichamp for quite a while Barry  so will be interested how you get along with the Rambler, possibly my all time fave SAK and certainly the one I carry the most....literally 100% of the time when I'm not sleeping!

I have a couple of MC's (not alox admittedly) but find there's too many tools I don't need on a day to day basis. It also means I can carry any other alox SAK (or other MT) and know I have the T & T

You're right Echotech, it's been years with primarily the Alox Mini Champ on my keychain.  I've had this Rambler for awhile, and was in the mood for something different.  I'm liking it already!

Over the years I’ve tried many keychain and EDC combos, it was what brought me to MTO in the first place

Been through the OPT phase, the  Maxpedition pocket pouch phase etc but this combo has really stood the test of time for me

Rambler, Nitecore Tiki, mini lighter and TEC pocket clip

I have an alternative set up with a Manager, RovyVon Aurora, mini lighter but with a very nice BlankForces titanium carabiner clip for best  but it’s the first one that I carry 95% of the time

I’ve got on order 2 titanium emergency mini whistles, one for each set up. Reckon it’ll finish them off nicely

That's a great kit!  Better the one you have than the one at home, when you need it!
