Coin pocket knife challenge?
on: July 03, 2021, 10:41:20 PM
At my age, memory is a strange thing. I have to think hard what I had for dinner last night. Heck, sometimes I can't recall breakfast. But please someone tell me, have we ever had a small coin/watch pocket knife challenge?

I was riding along for the pocket rocket challenge over in the SAK forum, and it got me to thinking. (Always a very dangerous thing.) A challenge for the little guys, the teeny pocket knives like Case peanuts and Opinel number 4's and under, the great Christy knife, all the little slicers that fit in a jeans coin pocket wth room left over. say blades of 2 inches or less. Just getting back from almost the whole month of June on the go out in California with just a Vic classic got me to thinking about how well I got by with just a little teeny tiny pocket rocket of a pocket knife.

Soooo, a Christy knife challenge or Opinel number 4 challenge?

Yeah, I was thinking of my Christy. I was soooo happy to get back from California and slip it in my pocket again. Yeah, a Christy knife challenge. I can go for that!

I'd be open to something like this, it's not really much of a restriction as you can get a lot in a 5th pocket  :dunno:

I'd like that.  My Opi 4 needs some pocket time :tu:

The Opinel 4 is about the same blade length as the Christy I think. Yeah, its good. I think any peanut size pocket knife is good. You're pocket rocket challenge inspired me! :tu:

They all look like very good coin pocket cutters. After watching my dad do so many things with his little Case Peanut, I have little doubt a 2 inch blade will do a heck of a lot.

That's great to hear!  I think the little knives get overlooked too much.

I agree, but a 2" restriction wouldn't work for me, as I only have one knife that fits that rule, yet I have 4-5 that fit a typical coin/watch/5th pocket.

I just did some quick measuring, and I would be interested if the limit was a 2 1/4" main blade.

I think the spirit of the challenge needs to be better defined, is it 'small knives' or is it 'coin pocket knives' because they're not really the same thing. For example I comfortably carried my ZT 0450 in my watch pocket the other day, entirely contained within the pocket, not even clipped.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought you were referring to this type of knife.

I could probably be convinced to participate in this challenge. I have a little folder with 2" of cutting edge that fits right in the old 5th pocket perfectly.
