Laugh, if you must, Barry, but I'd be some kind of heel if I didn't at least mention it.  Guarantee that if I hadn't just bought 2, I'd be on it just to get around one of Nix's challenge provisions.

And hear I sit waiting to see what all the fuss is all about.
It looks like it would have been awesome if it had the caplifter/phillips from a 58mm.

You may have a small sense of let down when you first get your hands on one. It might even seem to be a bit of a silly knife. However, a 30 day challenge will give you time to see just how capable the Executive can be.  :tu:

:iagree: And I use the small blade and scissors most of the time.  If it wasn't discontinued, I'd carry mine every day.

I started carrying either a Rambler or a MiniChamp for the small phillips driver, as I always seem to need to change batteries in something.

Seems like the Executive may be the MC equivalent of the 74mms.

I promise that if I have batteries to change, in December, I'll stand and salute and splain my actions.

A 3 inch knife, silly?
My normal traditional is a 4.25 to a 4.5 inch stockman.
But they don't have scissors.

In!

I love the Executive and carried one daily for years.    I assume the Ambassador would also count?

Myron, great to have you jump in.   :tu:

Thanks for asking that clarifying question!  To be clear, this is an Executive SAK challenge. It is not a 74mm challenge. I kinda wish I could use my Ambassador; I've never done a 30 day Ambassador challenge. Nevertheless, because the Executive was Yeager's knife, that is the knife we're using. Executives only.  :tu:

Hope you'll sharpen up the old Exec and stay in the challenge!  :tu:

Of course!  I have a couple to choose from.  But my thinking was that the only difference between an Executive and an Ambassador was the keyring, right?   Or do I have that wrong?

Edit -- I just checked my journal and it's not an Ambassador that I have.  It's a Companion.    Which is an Executive without a keyring.  Ok to also use that for the challenge?

I'm good either way, Nix!

well that's a huge relief ... I don't have any 74mm SAKs, so in my enthusiasm for the challenge, I'm bidding on this...

Thanks - I have a backup plan to order a new one, but that won't be quite as much fun as a 70's model :pok:

I'm taking that as a "Yes", that a Companion is allowable?

My blue Newport News "Companion" came in today.
It was billed as an Executive...

My other one is due tomorrow.

Yes. I'm surprised I haven't filed the keychain attachment off my Executive.

Did you call the Executive a "silly knife", Nix?  Haven't had it in my hands, for more than 20 minutes, before I was using it.

It's funny that I paid less for the Newport News Companion, than I did for the black Executive,  and I'm planning on putting the Companion up, and removing the logo from the Exec and using it.   Still, even after brief use I can tell that I'd like it a heck of a lot better if it had a set of proper screwdrivers.

It's gonna be hard waiting until December to start really using it.  If I get out of the doghouse I may have to invest in a third.
I can say though that the Executive/Companion is the only 74mm that I'd ever consider.

Don't file the keyring attachment off, either.  I'm still trying to find a suitable bead to use in mine for the challenge.

I'm out.  Soapbox is free.

No, not exactly. I said that you might call it "silly". Two blades plus an "orange peeler"? That awl-ways seemed odd to me.

However, I found that to use the Exec is to love the Exec. The orange peeler spares the blades some messy work and can serve as a small pry tool/driver. The nail file is pretty good. The scissors are great. Nope, I love it!  :tu:

My Companion arrived yesterday   I didn't notice the lack of a keyring in photos.  The good news is that I already like it enough to buy a spare.  :tu:

All of that begs the question: why do I dislike my Director?  My only answer is that the metal scales just aren't very SAKish to me.
