No, not exactly. I said that you might call it "silly". Two blades plus an "orange peeler"? That awl-ways seemed odd to me.

However, I found that to use the Exec is to love the Exec. The orange peeler spares the blades some messy work and can serve as a small pry tool/driver. The nail file is pretty good. The scissors are great. Nope, I love it!  :tu:

I was thinking, which isn't the best thing at times, about the so called screwdriver on the orange peeler blade.
Was it an afterthought?
Is it even functional?

Personally, it doesn't look too sturdy to me.

Also thinking that the tip on the nail file may work as a last ditch effort phillips driver.  I know that the nail file on them is supposed to be the best ...

The Companion has been safely put up and the Executive is scheduled to come today.
Trying to figure out an appropriate lanyard that both fits the knife as well as the theme of the challenge.

My Companion arrived yesterday   I didn't notice the lack of a keyring in photos.  The good news is that I already like it enough to buy a spare.  :tu:

I didn't even wait till I had one in hand.  I bought 2 right from the start.

If you're looking for a slightly-different Executive for the challenge, I was browsing eBay for interesting SAKs and found a wood scale Executive for sale:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/164957765604?hash=item26683fbfe4:g:qjoAAOSwyY9g7ccZ

If the link doesn't work for some reason, search for: Victorinox Executive Swiss Army Knife with wood scales

From the pictures, it looks like whoever made it fit in the Wenger toothpick and tweezers.

I've bought from this seller before and it went smoothly. Other than that, I don't know the seller and have no affiliation with him/her.

I hope I'm not breaking any rules here by posting this - please let me know if I am.

SAKs:
58mm: Bijou (3), Classic SD (6), Cavalier, Mini Champ Plus (mod), Alox Classic SD, Rambler (2), Companion
65mm: Wenger Esquire
74mm: Executive
84mm: Bantam
85mm: Delemont Evolution S557, Wenger Serrated Commander, Wenger Traveler
91mm: Champion "c", Swiss Champ (3), Explorer (3), Deluxe Tinker, Climber, Huntsman, Serrated Spartan/Weekender, Explorer Plus, Deluxe Explorer Plus (mod), Marlboro Unlimited Outdoorsman Plus, Spartan, Champion "a", Champion Plus, Timekeeper Alarm
93mm: Pioneer Alox

My second showed up yesterday.  Black scales with some bank logo.  I don't know what Victorinox did to cover the logo, but it took awhile to remove it.
Whatever process they used, I wish that they would use it on the current LE's.   You pick up a new Limited Edition Classic, drop it in your pocket and in no time at all the image is damaged.

Here's my EDC MiniChamp that I put a set of Camo scales on. Pretty soon they'll just be black.

The screw driver on the end of the orange peeler is not a real great driver. The length of the tool and design of the tool with its very narrow length gives it a lot of flex if dealing with a tight screw. Same problem with the tip of the nail file if used on a rusty or tight Phillips screw. neither tool does as well with both Phillips and flat screws as the SD tip of the classic nail file. And neither tool is as good as the bits on the Victorinox quattro. In fact, it may be good to attach the quattro to the executive with a lanyard.

Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

If you're headed to the doghouse anyway, you might as well buy something else.  :salute:

I'm just playing catch up.
This last one is definitely a beater, and will definitely need a bit of TLC.  But, I like some that have a story to tell.

Yep,  if I plan on carrying one, I need at least 1 for a spare.  Definitely have to cool it after this though.  The Boss Lady has already scheduled vacation for us, next month.

IDK, Barry, is it just fun or some complex form of addiction?  The saving grace, here, is the lack of cheap compatible patterns for scale swaps.

Companion came today - I am now suitably equipped for the Challenge  :salute:

I could not find a reference to GEMA company, goes back to around 1980 so a little difficult to research. I may order some replacement scales and it's missing the tweezers (58mm tweezers don't go in all the way - does this take a different size? - EDIT: I swapped around the pic and tweezers fit the other side )

My third, and probably last, is currently moving through the postal system.  Last seen in Indianapolis...
Scheduled for Friday delivery, I may be able to  get it cleaned up by the weekend.

Well, got a slip made for the latest.  Didn't have my granddaughter, today, so I decided to get ready for The O'BRIEN.

This is certainly a fun challenge, especially since it's still almost 5 months away.

I'm still waiting on THE O'BRIEN to arrive.  Hoping that any issues are only cosmetic.
Wanting one that looks like it has some stories to tell.

Also, I'm wondering if anyone, here, got the "Trout" knife.  After Nik told the story about the trout, I thought that would have been a perfect one for the challenge.   I'm just happy that I was able to win the Newport News knife, for the price I did.  I don't know what it is with Doris' auctions, but they always seem to get top dollar.
Could be the time they take making the lanyards and all.

Last time I saw it, it was up to $26.00.  she recently had 2 different Executives, each with a classic that went for around 40.

Just read this thread, this knife looks awesome. Just seen it side by side with classic and now I want one.  Just found that its was discontinued.

When was it discontinued because I swear that I just seen them on vic site.

Second what was the going rate right before it was discontinued? So I know how much to spend on ebay.

Lastly how does one know when vic discontinues something do they put out a memo or something?

I can't say what the original price was, Rocco, but since this challenge was announced I've picked up 3 from ebay.
My prices ranged from $13.00 to $29.00.  Curiously, the $13.00 appears to be the best condition of the 3.

Just bought a 4th, with a Rally, on Facebook, for $26.00.

That's it guys.  The dogs are complaining.
