Guys, in this challenge someone will have to come up with a great idea how to effectively open bottles with the Executive. In a test run I had the other day, it took me ages to operate the cap from a bottle using the orange peeler. Did Chuck Yeager drink his beer only from cans or what?

Hold the bottle near the base and strike the neck against a P-51 prop.  :pok:

Just read this thread, this knife looks awesome. Just seen it side by side with classic and now I want one.  Just found that its was discontinued.

When was it discontinued because I swear that I just seen them on vic site.

Second what was the going rate right before it was discontinued? So I know how much to spend on ebay.

Lastly how does one know when vic discontinues something do they put out a memo or something?

They're still on the UK site, so they may have stock around somewhere on other sites. Might be the odd independent retailer with some as well.

I got the info on good authority last year - it normally takes a while for stock to run down, especially slow movers (74mm has been in this category for some time apparently).
Vic don't announce discontinuation publicly, only to their distributors/resellers.

Because we think about SAKs all the time, I started wondering what 91mm I would pair with my Exec so that I would have all the tools I want, but not two pairs of scissors.  That made me start thinking about an Explorer with a wood saw in place of scissors.

Saw a black one for $60.00, on Amazon.   Seller in Russia has some new ones for under 50.
Y'all need to remember that ol' Grumpy is cheap and has already picked up a few that total to less.  But it's nice to know that they aren't disappearing quickly.

I saw this combo, on Facebook, and realized that it was the perfect solution to what I want.
Executive plus a Rally.  The Rally adds a better slotted screwdriver PLUS has the phillips driver/bottle opener.

I wish I had the ability to mod them in, but I'm sure that it would take a couple of sacrificial 74s, that I don't have.  I guess I could always use super glue and let the Rally ride piggy back.   :dunno:

Seems like an overly redundant pair.

It'll be interesting to see how many EDC tasks you need to accomplish that the Executive can't manage during the challenge.

This just arrived.  The back scale came off in the envelope so I sent the seller a message and I'll have to see if he wants to replace it or what, but we have until December so plenty of time.  I might just order some scales and then I can get the scale changer badge too.  Go ahead and add me to the list.

Perhaps, Nix, but I definitely prefer the screwdriver and phillips on the Rally.  The small phillips is the reason that I began carrying either a Rambler or a MiniChamp in the first place.
Now, I'm not much of a beer drinker either but I'm not gonna be the one that experiments on how to open bottles with the Executive either.
I'm just gonna have to get used to carrying one around though instead of my Stockmans.

The O'BRIEN has arrived.
 :mail:
Saw this one on eBay, from a seller that I've bought a couple of MiniChamps from, in the past.  Scales looked a bit beat up, but the tools looked good.
I figured that with someone's name engraved on it and with the wear on the scales it might have some stories to tell.  So I made an offer and he took it.
 :woohoo:
After it came today I started to clean it.  When I pulled the tweezers out a wad of what appeared to be dog hair came out too.  After dropping the knife into some hot water, to loosen the scales, the water turned grey.   After popping the scales off I couldn't believe the amount of crud there.  I'm not sure if it was carried loose for a bunch of years or was lost in a sofa, but it took 3 scrubbings  as well as taking another knife and scraping the gunk off.   Spring action feels almost new and other than a few scratches on the large blade, it looks great now.  Both blades also look to have their factory edges also.

I'm thinking that with the amount of crud under the scales the main story would be neglect.    After putting it all back together, replacing the tweezers, toothpick and split ring, it's ready to make new stories.

This is the one that I'll be using for the challenge, in December.

I'm certainly glad that I finally saw Felix Immler's video on putting the SAK into hot water to take off the scales.  Id been simply popping them off, in the past.  These came off perfectly, without damage to the mounting holes and popped right back on with no problem.  I'm happy especially since I wanted to keep them on the knife.

I've got a quick question for those that regularly carry an Executive, or a similar sized Vic.
Just drop it into your pocket?
Suspension clip?
Key ring?
Remove the key ring?
Or another method?

I've gotten into the habit of making a pocket slip, for my Celidor scaled MiniChamps so I made one for my Executive too, but I still wonder how everyone else carries.
