What is the reasoning behind the semi serrated blade on the 08 Solider?

Is it trying to incorporate two knives into one blade?

Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Farmer X SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the 111mm sak for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of an Old Cross SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the minimal sak (2 layers or fewer) for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate and contribute in Challenge thread and post a photo of a different blade each day for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a SAK Soldier for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate in a challenge thread and post a photo of a SAK Cybertool (any variant), Swisschamp, Champion or Toolchest for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the multitool for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the discontinued sak/mt for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the modified sak (scale swap not included) for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Alox SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate and post a pic of your vintage SAK (1986 or earlier) everyday for 30 days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a MiniChamp SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the pen for thirty (30) consecutive days.  Post a pic for Halloween of your pumpkin (or turnip or gourd or whatever you traditionally carve for Halloween!) being carved by any SAK, multitool, pocket or woods knife you may own!  Only available once a year

Ah thank you, I've only been collecting for a few years, so I am still quite new to the hobby.
I still have a lot of questions to ask and things to learn.

The 2008 Soldier was based very closely on the 2003 German Army Knife, and so retained many of its features, including the partially-serrated locking OHO blade.  I haven’t been able to find an actual copy, but I believe these features may have been included in the German Army’s requirements for the knife.

As to the reasons why some people may prefer a partially-serrated blade, at least in some situations, this thread might be worth a read…
