:salute: :salute: :salute:  Its a little on the heavy side (for me) for EDC, but fun to play with.  I'll prolly rock a Spyderco Resilience Lightweight for the Challenge.

Hi all  :salute:

I'm back from much-needed break, gearing up for this challenge.  Thank you all for keeping it alive in my absence.  And thank you SurgeUK for the message - I did receive it, but it took me until today to get logged back in because somehow the server wouldn't send me the necessary email to recover my password.  Anyway.  We're here now.

I'll be joining you awl in the challenge, but I will be away from my computer for almost a week in the middle fo February. In case I can't post in real-time, I will catch up as soon as I can for the 30 days.

Looking forward to the Combo Edge Challenge!

Didn't RF52 want in on this?  I hope he's still interested.  I don't know what the TBC means next to my name. Probably tremendously brilliant challenger or something like that.  So, many thanks to whoever added it.

Well, this is shaping up to be a nice niche challenge

Does this mean that we can get a badge then  :dunno: :pok: (not that I need one you understand )

I was hoping for a Combo Edge one rather than a tool specific one (like the Signal challenge) as that means using only one for the duration.

Anybody got any thoughts/ideas

Yeah I'll probably be carrying a Spyderco Resilience for the most part but still switching it around as well.  Unless specified by the Challenge-maker, it seems we have the option of switching things around as long as the theme of the Challenge is satisfied.

Okay. So, as ElevenBlade set the challenge it would be their call on how to proceed.

That said there has been little contact, since the inception of the challenge (PM sent but, as of yet, no reply)

As I see it, we have enough for a badge (rule of 8 ) for a Combo Edge Challenge. The question is; does it mean that you must use more than one combo edge throughout (I have 5 - 6  :D) in order to be awarded the title badge or, do you use only one tool and go for a sub category, such as the Signal or MP600?

I would prefer a Combo (multiple tools) but I'm happy to be guided by others and use just one (Pro Scout)
Perhaps a Mod type could provide guidance on what the rules are given the absence of the Challenger  :surrender:

Please chime in with your views etc.  :salute:

I don't see any specific language in the OP about using just one combo blade. I think any combo blade would qualify for the challenge and I don't see why it would be limited to one knife for the whole 30 days.

If ElevenBlade wanted it to be limited to one he could have specified it that way.

You should be good for a badge as long as no one drops out   :tu:

@Jothra is talented in badge design.  I am not volunteering him, but I know he designed the Farmer X badge and think possibly a couple others as well.

If it ends up being its own badge, I may use a couple different knives that I have.

Ok then. I'm going for the Combo badge  :viking:

I can use the MP600 at work as it was issued (albeit years ago) and the others whilst not at work  ;)
As for badge designers; I yield to those with greater knowledge and skill  :surrender:

:doggy:

Here I am!

I was thinking that the challenge could involve any knife or multitool that has a Combo edge blade.  One or more tools would be at the participant's discretion.  If you want to use one or a combo of more than one it's up to you.  If you want to make one aspect of the challenge an initial choice of which tool would work best for you for the whole month, in the spirit of the Jack of All Trades and Master of None purpose of the combo edge blade, that's fine.  If you want to put several of your combo edge knives and multitools through their paces, thats fine too.

I also envision that if you wanted to choose a multitool that has a combo edge blade (E.g. Signal or Skeletool) you wouldn't be required to use the blade itself for all 30 days.  Using a screwdriver or pliers would count as a daily usage of the tool you chose that has a combo edge blade.  It's just that if you needed to use a blade, you would have to make do with the combo edge, with all it's pros and cons. If you choose a knife with a combo edge, like a Spyderco, you'd have no option but to post a picture of that combo edge blade in use each day - which should be fine for you if you are going in with a folding knife.  One of the things we like to do is think about which tool would work best for us in most (or all) scenarios.  The same can be done here, as long is the tool has a partially serrated blade.

I think I will be doing the Challenge with a Skeletool KBx, so I will have only a knife and a bottle opener.  I also have a regular Skeletool and a 111mm Vic, and I might use the Victorinox for part of the challenge. But it's quite likely I'll be doing the whole month with the KBx.  For me - my EDC almost always has scissors.  Since I don't have a tool with a combo edge and scissors, the scissors are out of the picture for me.  This leaves me with the three aforementioned choices.  Without scissors, I think I will lean towards the smaller knife that is on the Skeletool, but since I still have little to no use of pliers, I'll probably go for the KBx instead of the fully functional one.  I might go with a Victorinox Nomad, but I'm leaning toward the Skeletool KBx due to half the tools at less than half the size... still just a thought though.

I'm very excited that we're able to get enough participants to have our own badge - this way everyone can get to choose if they stick with one tool, or switch between tools - since either way, you'll get the badge.

A subtle combo edge.

 :like:

might I suggest though, that the serration is a bit too subtle.... a tad more aggressive may show how clever your design really is as it would stand out a bit more obviously.
