on: January 11, 2021, 10:09:35 PM
Not wishing to hand a dangerous weapon to my young granddaughter.

I built one for her.

What do you think?

Unlike the commercial tomahawks, that's a really nice design. The handle shape of those on the market today (usually straight) seems more aimed at those who like to throw them instead of using them as a cutting and hammering tool; and often, a tiny set screw is the only thing holding the head on. The curves in the handle allow for precise control up-close. I grew up with old American-made hatchets, but when I picked up a German-made Stihl, I immediately become a fan of the bearded style of most European axes and hatchets.

I may have been a little unclear in my first post.

My granddaughter is too young for a real tomahawk, so I made one....out of wood.

Here are the build pictures.

Thanks all;

I build comicon weapons for my youngest daughter and when my granddaughter wanted a tomohawk, I thought it would be good to make a "relativly" harmless one.

She loves it.

Its not all that hard to build stuff from wood, this attachment is all wood and took me a week to make.

I modelled this tomohawk after one my uncle had.

When the poor gentleman passed away several years ago.
We found no less than 20 axes and tomohawk in various parts of his home.
The one I modelled was badly rusted and thrown away before I could snag it.
The others were apparently also thrown away, even though they were in good condition.

I knew my uncle all my life, but not once ever saw him use a tomohawk, even while camping.
So why he owned them I'll never know.

He was a gentle man, loved his dogs and never did anyone harm.
I cannot remember him ever being angry.
I doubt he had a vicious bone in his body and was always there for us kids.

I just wish, that at some time in the many years I knew him, that I had asked about his axes.
It may have been an intriguing conversation.

I miss my old uncle..........
