Gerber Military Gear.
on: June 29, 2021, 06:48:08 AM
Here are a few larger military kits that also contain a Gerber.

1. Sapper Platoon Leader Pac.

Description found on the internet:

"Sapper Pac EOD US Military. There are three versions of the Sapper Pac--one for sappers, another for squad leaders and platoon sergeants, and a third for platoon leaders. Government cost was $304.29 for those made June 2006-June 2007. This Sapper Pac contains numerous tool points and nut drivers for the Gerber demolition explosive technician (DET) multi-pliers, an Inova X1MT flashlight designed with a wand attachment for signaling and a stake attachment for planting in the ground, a sectionalized mine probe with shaft extensions and multiple metal and plastic tips, 8 credit card-size bendable trip wire Delta grapnels, an inspection mirror, and a thumb saw that cuts through wood and metal. In addition to that, there is still room in the Pac for a memorandum book, a pen, a small tape measure, and a carabiner (none of these are included). Includes 15 meters of 550 cord for the grapnel."

Ahhh ahhhh very nice!! I’ve been scouring the inter webs for these. Some are easy and most are like unicorn poo.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I got very lucky on the Sapper Pac. I do not think those go up for sale all that often. The Military Individual Readiness System I got off of a fellow MT.O member. I have never seen another one since. The MP 650 Military Tech kit is also a very rare bird. I believe the OTIS kit is the most common, or at least, easier to find than the others.

I managed to get the mp650 military multitool and also acquired today the cable cutters. The only thing I need now is the technician head and I’ll be set as I can re-make the others.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I am the worst at figuring out what things are going for these days. I know I am constantly in shock whenever I do try to price a multi-tool using eBay. As a collector, yes. I know I do not have one in my collection if memory serves me right. But such things are always up to what the buyer is willing to pay for it, and the seller is willing to sell it for. I fear I do not have numbers to give you. I am just glad that Leatherman is the only company where I want to get all the  colour variations, etc. With the rest of my collection, I am just happy to have 1 and be done kinda thing.  :D

Oh by the way, for the technician head you could go the expensive route and cannibalize an expensive MP 600 EOD, or try the cheap route and cannibalize a cheap chinese knockoff.  :salute:

I thought the MP650 Technician head was the extra long needle nose pliers (the same as in the MP600 Fisherman MT).  Like this one for sale on ebay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/274817374125
It says "Technician's Accessory" on the packet.

Yes those are the tech heads. And that’s the one I’m watching!! Quite pricy to. I guess I should’ve bought the only multi with that one and another head as well but I didn’t bid enough in time  :dunno:

No. The EOD is just that. The tech is the very long ones.

Here's a technician head a bit cheaper (but definitely still not cheap):

So from experience. which plier head is the hardest to get? The technician or the cable cutter?

I'd guess the Cable Cutter.  Which is interesting as I consider it is the least practical - it can only cut soft copper cables, and I've seen quite a few with significant damage to the cutting surface (presumably caused by someone trying to cut something harder than soft copper cables)

I’m actually going to purchase this one. I have contacted the seller to get some more pictures, I hope, and will then settle the deal. That is the only one I need to finish the set. Well besides the cap crimper which I have 0 chance to find.

Yeah I noticed this. I don’t plan to cut anything but copper. You would need far more surface area, size, and shear force to cut metal with these.

Get yourself a fake MP 600 DET. Those are painted black. I would think you could remove the paint and modify it for your needs. That might work.
