Standard WAVE + vs. Charge TTI Factory Edge

More of a PSA than a question. I recently purchased both a Standard Wave+ and a Charge TTI, new in their boxes. What struck me was how the Wave+ came with a shaving sharp edge on its 420hc blade, while the S30V blade on the Charge TTI was still in need of some honing and stropping before it be nearly as sharp.

I'm sure it has to do with how much easier 420hc is to put the final edge on, but I also find I prefer to just carry the Wave+ because I don't have to mess with it. I bought a Surge a few months back too and found it was equally sharp to the Wave+ out of the box.

Overall the Wave+ gets the most pocket time since it came with the initial best subjective impression of quality and the smoother lines make it seem less bulky than the charge. Not doing the charge though because I got a killer deal on it and I am sure once I take the time to tune the edge a little I'll warm up to it....but then again I might just swap the S30V blade and the hooked serrated blade into my Wave+ once I get the main blade hair popping sharp v

I have over 300 multi tools and knives with every blade steel that you can think of. Never been a big fan of S30V. I have always preferred 154cm over it. That being said, my OG Wave was one of the sharpest blades that I have taken out of a box. I was really hoping that LM would eventually go with S90V eventually, but MagnaCut is also a very nice option.

Glad to hear the Wave came sharp

but disappointing that the Charge didn't come as sharp

I carry a regular Charge plus with 154cm blade daily and it has been great

my Charge Knife (a mod of mine) has a 154cm blade as well and it sees lots of use and great edge retention (both blades came sharp but are older than the Charge you likley got and not S30v) I hope you are able to get the sharpness where you want it and can warm up to the Charge some

About the only time I buy S30V anymore is if it’s a Benchmade. That way I can just send it in for them to give it a spa treatment and sharpen it. The positive side of S30V is that once you get it to where you want it should stay sharp for a long time. I just don’t have the time or patience anymore.
