Lightest/most compact 3/8" socket set.
on: August 17, 2021, 07:40:02 PM
Hi guys. Looking for a solution.

I have an organizer in my EDC bag with FAK, powerbank and few other urban necessities. As a mechanic I would like to carry more than just a Leatherman on my belt. Screwdrivers and pliers are easy. I would love a socket set 8-19mm for any rattle on a car, quick bike fix on my cousin bike and general bolt turning.

1. It have to be 3/8" as I would like to go over 14mm.
2. It have to be a socket set with maybe a small extension and not a multifit spanner. From experience socket and ratchet is a solution to 90% of situations, I will worry about something spannery later.
3. As light as compact as possible.

So far I have been impressed with WERA 3/8 socket set but they are expensive and for some weird reason missing 14mm.

Have you thought about making your own? Do you have any sockets awlready? I just put together the sizes I need most, found an extension and a ratchet and got a small pouch to store them together.

I am a little confused here too?
Just a strip of sockets that you like and a ratchet and extension and you have a set any way that you prefer it or am I missing something else?
It does not seem to get more simple than that .

Yeah that's my plan B but I'm hoping to find a compact set in a smart packaging.

Yrs I'm just hoping for a compact set in a smart package like the WERA set which is a bit too expensive for me.

I think if you are looking for a quality slick package that you will always pay more for it than something more custom to you that you can easily put together yourself.

As an example these Maxpedition Cocoon pouches seem ideal for the job you are trying and small, slick and handy for sure too.

This was the most elegant Bahco option I could find.

3/8...
pass through sockets for long bolts etc....
pivot head handle for awkward positions....

Bahco's plastic boxes are not the most compact in the world, but they are relatively light, or as suggested you could repackage in a canvas bag or somesuch,

I see I forgot to post the link. Ah well. It's on the bahco webste. Good luck.
