Funny thing is, I had just put in an order for parts for my lathe from littlemachineshop. They just got back in stock the live center I want, but I’m waiting for those cutters to come in stock before I place another order :)

In the meantime I did buy a 10 pack of carbide cutters off the bay of e, just because they’re cheap.

Lemme get them in and see if they fit first, and if they do then I'll post the info.

Definitely an improvement, much better performance in stranded wire. Still not as good as the cutters in my Rebar but at least I’m not afraid to use them now.

(Image removed from quote.)

So, there's a chance I'll get a CenterDrive after all... :tu:

Everything else about the CD is great. Especially if you swap in an MP600 saw blade holder instead of the goofy serrated blade and ineffective "awl" with no cutting surface. (It's just a punch, suitable for leather and nothing more. It can't ream out a hole and you can't sew with it)

So far, I've found these carbide inserts, which are significantly thicker and more robust than the stock inserts:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/180670416846

They're still carbide, but being thicker means they're less likely to shatter. I did cut some hard wire with them, and had no chipping. They *feel* beefier and more robust, they're far heavier than the stock cutters as well. Not sure what any of the acronyms mean, but they fit and worked in my Center Drive. I cut coat hanger wire and thin stranded wire with no problems.

Old thread but I'm glad I found it! Shattered my CenterDrive cutters today trying to cut a coat hanger.  First job of the day too!  I just ordered replacement set from LittleMachineShop.  I'm hoping they hold up a bit better.  I'm feeling good about based off of some posts in this thread. Thanks fellas! :hatsoff:

I think you will be very happy with those. I have some on a MP600 and they laugh about coat hangers  :D

Here you go
Thanks. I just got a centerdrive cheap and I have a few other gerbers as well. Since I have my own lathe and mill I may just make some out of 1080 or the like.
