Buyer's remorse - Sofirn SP36
« on: August 31, 2021, 01:12:00 AM »
So I made a big mistake...

I haven't purchased a flashlight in a long time, so I didn't realize how complicated flashlights have become.  I needed a new flashlight, and I saw a review of the Sofirn SP36 - it had a great review, and the price was right, so I just purchased it without researching further.  When it arrived, I was a little surprised to find the button click menu.  I love how bright it can get and it's very cool that it has so many features, but there's no way in hell I'll remember all of those click combinations when I go to use the flashlight several months from now.

Does anyone know of a comparable flashlight with just a couple settings (e.g. off, low, medium, and nuclear)?

Convoy S2+ Simple rugged and cheap great first nice light and under $15 too!

You can set it up in many ways and you do not need too either,it will work and melt your face right out of the box if thats what you want but you can change the way it works at any time too if you get curious.
Cheap enough that it wont matter.

You do not have to or need to use all the modes.

Just use the ramping mode where you keep pressing the button to go brighter.

I have several lights with many modes and usually just use on, plain, mode.

In most you just ignore and forget the modes you do not use. The manual is your friend.

If you want plain, avoid anything mentioning Anduril software.

These Sofirn have more basic modes and similar(ish) brightness:
Sofirn SP70  fixed modes and ramping
Sofirn DF60 just 4 modes, nothing else

There are others too.

Seriously.  This is awesome UI but it can get complicated.

By comparable are you talking about lumen count? What lights do you have that you like the UI of?

Yes, something just as bright (or brighter!), around the same price, but with a super-simple UI.  My favorite UI is the one on my old Maglite (just off and on)  haha
