Budget version of Leatherman Vista/Hybrid
on: September 14, 2021, 12:27:28 AM
I've been eyeing these folding garden shears on Amazon for awhile.  The price just dropped to $13.99, so I had to buy them.  I'll give them a test in the yard next weekend and see how they perform.

Here's some pics (Leatherman Free T2 for size comparison):

Would love to see your review. Worried the shears are very soft.

Have you used them yet?    They look like they'd be great in the garden.

Nope plan to use them very soon.  They seem very sharp, but I wonder how the steel will hold up.  It's nice that they have a saw .... probably not a great saw but it does spare the cutters when working on tougher stuff!

So far it seems very nice and well assembled.  Blade is sharp.  Saw seems adequate.  My only worry is very soft steel but we'll see.

I bought one of these a while back for my wife to use when she is gardening. She says the knife and saw work well, the scissors are real sharp and work great, but the lock on the scissors for some reason seems to auto engage.

I used the tool for some weeding today.  The blades are very sharp and have good meet up.  Nothing bound up in them or forced them apart.  I do think they are soft though, and didn't try anything too tough.  But they worked well.  Hopefully the softness means they have good rust resistance.  The saw on some small branches worked fine. Not amazing, but fine.  Good tool overall, I like it.

I started using mine this weekend.

I used the pruning shears quite a bit, and they performed well.  Time will tell if they hold up as well as my Fiskars.

I also used the blade to break down a few boxes.  It worked well, but the blade feels thin and flimsy like a SAK.

Right now my top complaint is that it doesn't have a pocket clip.

1 issue I encountered already - when folding the shears, there is a hard stop that requires a lot of force to get completely closed (see pic).  The solution is to fold the tab that locks the shears in place back manually before closing.  Not sure if this is intended or a problem.
