Lord of the Rings - Director's Cut
on: September 19, 2021, 11:31:43 PM
As someone who has watched the LOTR cinematic cut prolly 30 or 50 times, I was recently exposed to the Director's Cut on HBO Max.  This longer version adds over 2 hours to the already long trilogy.  And all I can say is that I cannot envision myself ever watching the shorter version again.  The Director's Cut is quite a transformative experience.  After all these many years, its quite a strange thing to see so much new footage.

Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Movie Night at Grant's place this Friday.  Wenger giveaway after the trilogy is over.  Prepare to stay late, as the Director's Cut runs 11.5 hours.   :salute:

I have the box set of director's cuts. I much prefer them.

I would, however, like to one day have the skills to cut The Hobbit down to one movie.

The story was perfect as a single novel and should have been made as a single film, instead of padded out with extra material to make three.

Well, I don't mind the extra stuff. I'd love to see the Silmarion put to film. Or, at least, some parts of it.

It's not easy. Some parts are quite "lengthy" but I liked every bit of it. The intertwining of stories is beautiful, the way characters cross each other's path gives it a reality feel.

Take a look at Unfinished Tales, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil and the rest of the short stories.

The Silmarillion (unabridged) is available on Audible.com for $12.98.  Maybe you would find it easier to listen to it than to read it.

I took it on holiday to read. Now, strictly I didn't "fail" I did read it but, boy, it was a struggle ...
